Political and religious debate does nothing but drive a wedge between members who would otherwise get along.  Forums have a purpose, if you want to talk about those kinds of things then I suggest you go find forums where those topics are the focus.

Just my opinion, and the reason I seldom tolerate such discussions at RF.  I've gotten tied up in threads about these kinds of topics and at no point has it ever improved my forum experience or made me happier to be a part of any board.

I agree with you Mike since the political discussions on here, my view of a few members has definitely changed and I learned a valuable lesson.....only discuss politics and religion with like minded people....and don't do it on internet forums....... It most definitely divides people.  Having said that, if they did put a section like that in for those that want to debate that stuff I say great, then we wouldn't see it anywhere else in the forum   I myself would just stay clear of it.

well said Raptor Randy

I enjoyed seeing your opposite point of view though. Unless I was posting half asleep, and making no sense. ;) I am starting to think ithis would be a bad idea though.

That's the thing, not everyone is like minded, and that makes us all unique. If we were all like minded, we would have no break from the normal. We have to have diversity. If you were all the same, I would not be here.

Exactly.  When did it become not ok to disagree?  We're all different and that's what makes it fun.  People take themselves waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to seriously.  Just because you believe something doesn't make it true.  As long as you at least respect other people and treat them as you expect to be treated just about anything can and should be discussed.  I'm open about my lack of belief, do you think I give a FERK about what anybody thinks about that?  Nope.  Will I get in their shit if they mistreat me because of that?  Absofuckinglutely.  Chris Rock said it best.  On crime, I'm conservative.  On prostitution, I'm liberal.  People that can't discuss matters rationally need only to look in the mirror for the answer of why these things can't be discussed.

IMO war room threads usually end up just as "Gang up on the guy with a short fuse sessions".  Now, I definitely agree that with a preamble in the thread forward like "whiners, thin skins, and hot tempers need not apply", you would expect that some people would stay out.  But, honestly, who is going to admit that and bow out on a fairly anonymous internet forum??

Not everyone is capable of communicating their point via text at the same level ( I have double doctorate MIT grades here who would make RK look like a Shakespeare  ), plus allot of communication is missed online IMO because you cannot hear a person's voice inflection nor see their body language, which tells me much more of their intent than mere words.

I do enjoy good conversation, I just don't want to see people get there feelings hurt and leave the forum because there facts were wrong, or there opinion is unpopular, and they get beat up for it.

When all is said and done, this is still an ATV site.  And it would be a shame to loose valuable members because there political, social, or religious opinions were unpopular.
