$7 to ride per day...all day all night. Get a wristband $8 to camp-might have gone up to 9. Ride to and from campsite-no loading unloading. They have a atv parts shop you can ride up to, restaurant, and a gift shop with shirts, knick-knacks, and riding gear. Nasty showers..but they work just fine.
You can get a motel room. There are two motels in Waynoka. They are both turds, I prefer not loading and unloading.

I may have some room in the back of the toyhauler if someone wants to toss a blow up matress back there. A/C and Heat.....OOOOOOOOOOOOOO nice....lol.
This next time I may bring some meat to BBQ.
If this does go down, we should get a couple camp sites next to one an other.

Don't forget to tell everyone to bring quarters as the shower cost money. I voted for october only b/c of snakehunt weekend. I could go any time, I just have to put in a vacation days.

showers=nasty .75$ but they are warm and they get the sand out of your hair...bring flipflops or something to walk in. Floor is disgusting.
There is a drive up gas station that sells 91 octane or 100, I think. Drive into town and fill your cans for 40 cents less a gallon.
hey what are the names of the podunk hotels? i want to look them up. or is there a nice hotel anywhere in a 20 mile radius of the dunes?
I have my big ass trailer that can fit a few quads. I sure hope to make it to this one.

Don't remember the names. There are nice ones are 30 minutes away in Alva.
We could always all go in on a timeshare rental house. There is a trail into town from the dunes. You can ride in town as long as you aren't making a scene.
We should start tossing around some dates....not sure when the big festivals are.

I know It is far away, but let's keep it going. I will look into the rental house.
For those that are wonderin' flags have to be 10 ft off the ground(7ft) you can buy them everywhere down there for 20-25 bucks.

down side, the atv trail is ony for daytime. We would have to load for night riding. You have to experience that.
This is not the only house. There are more that are away from the trail, you cannot ride through middle of town..
Anybody else want to poke their heads around and see what we can find?
yeah preddy, I 'll camp too. Just thought it would be cool to get everyone together. BBQ's and $hit. Just checking it out. I would vote camping, but if this works out to be cheap enough, I would consider it.

cheapest is $375 for 3 days-not able to ride to and from park-I think I'll camp.
t-minus 2 months and counting til my October trip.
dabigbratj-i wanna ride all day and night. I am not driving 10 hrs to sit around. Therefore too much money. I'll bring a tent. Let's Spend the extra $375 on booze! 8) And you will want to ride at night-it's a blast! I didn't spend that much time at the campsite anyway when I was there. Eat sleep, drink beer. Get gas. It was a cool idea, though. camping is only 8 bucks..ride to and from the dunes, like 100 yds away. that's only if they come and ask you to pay. We payed one day only for 3 nights.

Damn, you will fit right in in our group. Most of the time we are too tired from riding to have a beer. We think, "oh yea, lets get loaded at night" but that never happens. Always too tired from a full day of riding.

Yep, that is how I envisioned our first trip-"ride all day, drink all night" not happening, ride all day and night, drink three or four beers sleep 3-4 hrs and repeat 3 times was more accurate. I loved every minute of it. I am looking forward to it, because now, I know how to ride. I had no idea what I was doing when we first went. I had the rappy for 3 months and only rode it in the mud. I was a bit intimidated.
Okay, lunch time- later.
yeah, I'll be camping. Not worth it.

man peels you sound like a hardcore rider. lol. but i agree i'm not driving 12 hours one way to sit around.
ok it looks like sand fest is in september, and i think the rattle snake hunt is in april. but i'm not sure. can anyone else help me find the dates of these 2 events for next year? i would like to go when there is not a huge crowd on the dunes.
Looks like snakehunt is the weel of the 15th of april and sandfest is not determined yet.
so avoid the weekend of the 15th with this trip and when ever we find out when sandfest is that weekend too.

Looks like I should have another drag bike by then if i get to make it. But it might be a 450 based bike. The wife wants a drag bike so I have to decide on turning her 450 into a drag bike or build another raptor.
I'm excited. Two trips planned. This October, then next spring....SWEEET!

October temps are in the 70-80 range, and nights are in the 50-60 range.

ok and i guess we settle on a week already so....lets get a list going to see who wants to go. yes peels you will be the first on that list.
I went in april for the last raptor rally and the weekend of rattlesnake... Only paid for 1 day of camping. I was driving a suv and pulled my 16 foot and slept in the back of the suv. Remote start was nice for the option of running heater or AC. Now driving a supercrew may be a little rougher to sleep in. But as soon as weather cools a bit here and I get the quad back together I am heading back over. About 2 hour drive from here. Gonna still be cool the first part of april. Warm during the days but bring firewood if your gonna camp at night. They sell wood but gonna cost a fortune to keep a good fire going most of the night. I say bring a good amout of fire wood.
I bought a florescent yard light and put on a poll and use a power inverter to power some light off the truck. In case need some repair light. Most camp at the site and ride till late night. Last time we went it was past 3am when we finally came in to catch some sleep and was back up and going by 8....
they show alot of water on the pics but if there is not much rain befor you go there should not be that much water. There are a few holes that hold water for quite some time and suck at night if your hauling ass... LOL
damn i need to get the quad going. I am ready to go do some sand racing. Gotta go need to find the new tires for the rear.
Anyone need some 10" sand stars? Only 2 trips on them...... LOL
so is it just me and peels going on this one or do you other guys want me to throw your name in the list too?
Well as of now it sounds fine, but I like to wait till it is a bit closer, with kids, wife, and work. But for now I will plan on it. I went this year for the mini raptor rally and met no one from the other site. Did meet a few raptor riders but none from the site.
welll warren go ahead and add us there.
done.
That was pretty nice riding. The rain made for some hard hook ups...... Had a blast racing. Have a few pics.
hey anyone who knows. what kind of food is there avalible around this area of OK?
For Breakfast we usually go Miller's cafe. They have a grocery store in town, Pizza place that was pretty good, gas station that serves pizza which is pretty good and I think there is another place like a steakhouse, and you can get ice cream at specialT's.

In town...not sure. I think there is a German restaurant, pizza, and a mexican place.

It will be worth it. On your way home, you will already be planning the next trip.
another question here for anyone that knows. all the hotels and retail houses say don't walk around inside or outside without shoes due to the natural "sticker" problem. what the hell are they talking about?
It is a plant that grows in dry sandy climate with spiky seeds that stick everywhere. Annoying.
Oh, we got plenty of them here too. Atleast they aren't goat heads, those little bastards hurt.
I've got a big group going with me the first weekend of October.. 2nd through the 5th. Hopefuly I will see some of you out there!
ok that's what i thought the stickers where. so basically it says not to walk around inside without shoes because people track them in there. right?
my girlfriend and i just found out that her sister is pregant and she is due late april or early may. so that's good and bad. good because she's having a baby and bad because if she goes into labor early then we have to haul ass home. lol i hope she can hold off until the early may birthdate.

THe little "stickers" are everywhere... sand, carpet...etc.
I have been reading some pretty nasty reports of the hotels in town warren. Better man up and get a tent. :lol:Or..if you don't want to camp, , check out the town of Alva 30-40 minutes away.

I will probably ride 2nd thru 5th. But probably camp. Did you look up trails to an from town? One of the rental houses you can ride in and out 24/7. Others only in the day. So that would be nice to only have to load up after dark. Seriously, you have to come out and ride at night one time. Lookin' forward to it. I told my wife that all i want for Xmas is cash for this trip.
Haha on the sig Krandall. I was thinkin just the other day, you have had the same sig for over a year....
yeah some of the day time only trials lead right in front of the rental houses.
I am making some arrangements to make this trip happen! Might bring my brother and his rancher(with the yamaha throttle) along

Sweat Jesus, I cant believe u guys can wait till April. I went last weekend and cried like a baby when I left. :'( :'( So much that Im going back this weekend. I remember talking about going "one of these days" for several years. I went last October and have been hooked ever since. Its 125 miles from me and I wont hesitate to piss the o'lady off and drive out there to ride. Last weekend It took 2 hours to get there and 2 hours to get back just to ride 3 hours. (I had plans I couldn't break)
If you guys have questions about Lil Sahara, just hollar. Camping is the way to go. They have water, electric, and grills at the campsites. $18/day for sites. $7/day to ride. Nite time riding is the ssssssssssssssssssssssssshit. No trails back into town unless you like to gamble with the law. No drinking (alcohol) on the dunes, unless you like big tickets. 2 speed shops with extremely reasonable prices. On site dyno. South camp has an outside burger grill, you can roll right up to it on ur bike, cheap too. You can rent paddles for $50/day or buy a set w/wheels for $199 and up. Gas pump u can ride up to at both North and South camps. North camp has a convenience store with hot lame deli. Also there is a restaurant at the end of North camp that is always way packed in the mornin's, but I hear its good. (I rather cook something up on the grill and get my ass back to the dunes). Emergency room is 28 miles north of the dunes (ask me how I know). If you get seriously hurt, its a helicoptor ride for you. No double riding. Helmets not required, but if your not wearing one then you're stupid already and you don't need one. No wheelies outside the dunes (again ask me how I know) Need at least an 8' whip, they sell em there for $15 or $25 w/lifetime free replacement on broken poles. They have quarter showers and they are nice considering its a state park. There is several guys that drive around and sale firewood for $25, its enough wood to last a pyro 2 nites. (buy from the old man in the red s10 blazer)
Oh one more thing.... CAN I GO TOO... :P
Warren, I know of a good way to pay for your gas to there and back. >:D
Yup takes me right at 2 hours to get there.... I am going over oct 31st night or early nov 1st....
We planned to go more this year but things come up with deaths in family, 3 in 6mo's. so slowed things a bit. but it give me more time to add some ponies.
I have about 6-8 or more planning to go when I go next.
so how does this saving my gas money work out?

holy crap, did I log on as you and post this on your behalf? WTF!!!! who are you Ms. f**kin Cleo? I absolutely agree with everything in there. Especially the "you can wait til april?" line, and the "night riding is the shiiiit" line. I love it! Did you see my pics from my trip? Quad vid pics section.
We were so tired last week after my ordeal and 4 days of riding that we were ready to go home. But...after a good nights sleep with no dip$hit kids next to us revving their 80cc dirtbike at 3:30 am, we were ready to go back.
Question: Do you camp at North Camp? We are always in the south camp in the primitive sites with no power, and it is still a blast!
Also, you can ride into town, we did it for the first time. Just gotta stop at the end of the trail after dark. Not go all the way into town.
Yeah we bought wood from the dude in the Blazer. All he had was bad news though. He was telling us exactly how many people have died out there and the details of each crash...before we got out to ride.
But...he is right it can be dangerous. Make sure you have your head screwed on straight when you are there, and WEAR YOUR HELMET!
10 hrs for me. :(
My "little" brother (6'6" 300+ lbs) has asked me to take him to the rally. He wants to see the dunes. But...he rides the Honda Rancher you may remember me stealing the throttle off of. He knows it will be waaay slow and I will get frustrated, but has offered to take a bunch of pictures for us. I am leaning on him to get a KFX 700 so he can at least have some speed at his size, but we'll see. He is not as obsessed as the rest of us.
I am already excited. I have some maintenance work to do on the rappy.
I will be there halloween night... Late. My buddy is getting a spot and we are drag'n the camper and stuff... We should have several nice quads and Pleasuresburban's brother is bringing his nice new lifted chevy out to play with. We are gonna talk him into a quad.
Better to take your own fire wood but if not the guy in the blazer is best to deal with most times. Just get your wood and go back to doing your thing. LOL Unless you want horror stories. Everytime I have been there has been a ambulance or heli. Be safe and wear a helmet. Oh and most times I would say drinking has added to injuries....

blazer guy is 20 bucks for enough firewood for 3 days, but his stories are a bonus. you gonna try to go in April?
more then likely...
I camped at the north camp once. It was way more quiet aaaaand boring. I usually get lucky some how and get a site right next to the entrance at the south gate. Im going this friday nite and staying till sunday. I cant wait to meet everyone in April, Im definitly in. That SE2 you saw was me, Im pretty sure of it. I didnt see any others out there. I think the most se2's Ive seen out there in a weekend was 3 including me and that was Sandfest weekend. You know the Snake Run is the last weekend in March or the 1st weekend in April. Did anybody consider that when setting up the date to go?
yep, big festival is the 15th. Wanna stay away from that......
You know, i thought that was you later, after I saw it (just sitting, no rider). Friday night I believe. I even remember looking for a quad with green tires  Really though, it was just when I got done putting her back together after my two day repair session..
an was thinking about not much else besides riding.
Just a note: We stayed for 4 days...never paid a dime for camping...and I only paid dunes fee once. Dunes were open, but gate was unmanned until Friday morning. pretty laid back down there....

Yeah, paying seems to be an option. They try, but they're not gonna wait around for ya. My KFX has paddles on it so you'll never see the green tires. Hell you know what, I guess I could start chaining up set of them out front that way everyone will know its me. Hmmm
so what's the weather like in OK in early april. i hope it's not cold as hell.
not cold but pretty cool.. Nights are always cooler...
Here ya go. I froze my ass off last April. We were there for a few days and had snow, rain, and hail. 30's at nite, 40's and 50's during day.
http://weather.msn.com/daily_averages.aspx?wealocations=wc:USOK0400&weai=4 (http://weather.msn.com/daily_averages.aspx?wealocations=wc:USOK0400&weai=4)
Just a thought on the before Snakehunt idea. When we go up for snake hunt we go up 3 weeks in advance to pay for our campsites. So alot of sites could already be taken. This last year at the end of March and the first of April was fairly chilly. upper 30's. Year before last was alot of rain and snow. Cold as shit. The later in April you go would probably be better. WE went in October and Careflight landed at 9:00 pm and again at 12:45 am. Night riding is fun as hell but is when most of the worst accidnets happen.
Yeah the night rides people get to drinking and also forget the dune peaks. We ride in our groups and stay away from others.

Good point. I went 3 weeks before snake run this year and south camp was all paid for. North camp only had maybe half a dozen sites left. I have a friend that pays for 5-6 sites in a row, a month in advance. ::)
