Ok, so the money is out the door, plan is set....now waiting on the parts to hit my door.
First. Jake's 727 stroker bottom end with 12.5-1 Racer's Edge piston and fresh cylinder
Second. KDS Racing +2 head with beehives and ferras
third. RJ Cam, and +3 throttle body.
It's on like Donkey Kong Bitches!!!!!
I dunno much about the raptors, but do you realy need a +2 head and +3tb with a 727? its only 40cc increase
do you have a map for said build? maybe you will have a map for me before i get mine dynoed. either way let me know

No I don't, but I was planning on dynoing it. I figure if I spent this much for the build, I should spend a few extra bucks to make her sing

Yes and no..... It's the combination that makes the difference. My +2 head and +3 TB give up no torque compared to my + 1 head with a +2 TB, but they have a bit more top end potential. This has 2 positive side effects..... one is a broader powerband and second is that he won't have to worry about the head needing to be re-ported if he goes bigger with his build. You will give up a little torque going with the FCI intake but it makes the powerband stretch flat all the way to 8,600 RPM(vs 8,300 for adapter types), where it starts to gently roll off to the redline. That will drop to about 8,000 RPM with the stroker. I find that the small loss of torque is fine with the RJ cam since everyone raises hell about traction problems anyway. As far as the RJ cam goes, it has turned out to be far stronger on the track than I expected, while maintaining excellent manners during casual riding.
I can't wait to see how that build runs up here
hell yeah
Man this build sounds very familiar!!!
I'd be lying if I said, I wasn't hoping to hit 70+ on the dyno (corrected for alt. ofcourse), but I loved how troys bike pulled in the sand, and I hope to have a similar pull when mines done.

Thats almost what my motors gonna be, just a 11:1 piston instead. Big copy cat jerk :P I hope for some solid numbers on the dyno too.

IMO u are going to want a larger/aftermarket tb to keep up with the needed air flow,,,, unless u trail ride only and dont need the upper rpm power
the +3 has proved to be to small for a well built 686 cc on a +1 head for those looking to race.

ok lol, good luck with the build,
the cost of a billet tb and intake kit is only a bit more then a bored stock tb and FCI but it really depends on what u are shooting for.....
We like to race so the top end pull and high rpm power is more important..... the 52mm tb was worth 2 mph for me on the hills here @ Dumont

I was seeing someone with a WK 54mm throttle body kit for sale on the forums for $500 which is pretty damn pricey. With your build is a 52mm tb as big as you're going to go? I hear there's a line between big enough and too big when choosing the right TB size.
the WK tb is actually 52mm at the plate and tapered out to 54 from there from what ive been told from WK , :nana:

she's tight, but kennys cam has some advance in it so we're thinking that helps our cause. Plus the fact that the head gasket is .020 thick helps.

It's tight enough so if it sounds like a diesel knocking, it shouldn't take more than 5 guesses to find the problem
more like a WWII burp gun blap blap blap boom!!!
did you clay the head to see how close the valves are from the piston? or just wing it.
Were'd ya get a .020" gasket?
Looks like the piston to head will be fine if thats true TDC.
it's a stock head gasket Bo, just a guess-tomit on it's height on my part.
My biggest fear is excessive valve float in high RPMs now :help:
and FYI to all CP piston users, there 12.5 to 1 piston is way more corrected than the old 13-1 pistons and such. I shaved .040 off my cylinder based on the old piston heights, and ended up ~.017 above deck :'(
Base gasket stacking time :thud:
for the win!
that sucks, but at least it's easily correcable.
Yep, they are semi-corrected. I have seen some not though here lately, dont know if they were old stock or what so need to measure them. Stock gasket is .028" compressed. If your truely .017" out of the hole @ TDC then two extra base gaskets will do ya.
ive had a few 2 layer cometics that measured out @ .019 not compressed

We used a stock base gasket plus made a paper gasket to make it flush. figured if we had two more base gaskets to stack we would have used that instead of the paper

I have too on the single layer base gasket, but its only been a couple so thats why I didnt say anything about em.
I should have got both of those head gaskets from you Daniel. I hope it's the same as a three layer gasket with one just not installed. I'm going to take one layer off of one of my head gaskets and check clearances that way on mine to make sure those valve reliefs are big enough for the new head.
ive got them if u need....the center layer was .009 on the 3 layer gaskets

Kenny just told me about this. Good job! Going to see you at the rally?
yes sir
OK guys, enough time has passed that I feel I can safely reveal the secret to this build running so well.........
...and beer
So you apply that to the cylinder? Or hows that work?
You get to stomp my 770 Colorado. Its running awful so you'll get bragging rights.
nah, we'll tune it up for you buddy. Lots of smart folks coming to this rally. We'll get that bike rolling good before sunday.
we can start you on my map it was done on a 770 anyway and runs pretty good for not an exact fit.
My build now is 727 stroker, 12.5 to 1 CP/RE piston, KDS+2 head, RJ cam, +3 TB, Dynatek PI, Barker duals, FCI.
Good, maybe it will get straightened out. There was nothing I could do for it as it was at the dyno except give advice and opinion.
Map sent via Email buddy, lemme know how it runs
The map that was in that bike was pretty lean for that calibur of build(in the teens mostly in adjustment) and the A/F was in the 10:1 range when it was on the dyno last. I bumped it into a "base map" so that when the engine was double checked on everything he would be in the ballpark.
the map I sent was the one troy built during his test of the 50/50 cam. From what he's told me they (5050 and RJ) are very efficient cams and don't require allot of fuel. It has low fuel numbers aswell
With all the money you put in your motor why didn't you get a PCV with autotune? It would take a lot of the guess work out of tuning at the elevation changes we have up here.
haven't had a need to be honest. Never rode anyplace that required adjustment. I know you guys that run Pikes peak run into issues, but I haven't had a problem yet.
I never had any problems when my Zuk motor was stock either but aafter it was built it got real sensitive to changes. From what I've heard the Yami system may deal with change a little better though.
Just installed an exhaust and PCV on my wifes yfzr today, gotta get the bung welded in still. I'm interested to see how well it really works and what changes it will make to compensate for a few thousand foot elevation change.
Cool, haven't been to impressed with the new YFZ-R power yet. Only ridin a few, and nothing "built". Suspension and handling is nice though.
you doing harry roamer's this year?
I'm not real impressed with the yfzr power either but the ride makes up for it. Its good enough for my wife right now though.
Hell yeah I'm doing harry's roamers. Shooting for pro studded championship if I get my rebuild done by then. You gonna give it a shot this year?
thinking about it, I'd have no idea where to start though with studding suspension etc
Let me know if you decide to and I'll give you a hand getting it set up.
cool bro thanks
any chance you can do LS next weekend??
Sure there's a chance, powerball drawing is wednesday night.
I hear ya, moneys tight for us too. Maybe St. A's for memorial day?
Biggest problem is that the toyhauler is winterized and needs to be serviced and trying to get the wife and daughter to make a trip without it now that we are spoiled isn't gonna happen. I'd like to go but that would be a long weekend making the drive by myself and sleeping in the truck. A few years ago I would have been all for it but I'm getting old fast.
I saw the Memorial day St. A's thread and am seriously thinking about that one. I've been wanting to go there for a while. Gonna have to wait till closer to then to see if we have the funds and vacation time for that one.
Ive tuned the 5050 cams before, a 770ish build that is pig rich with a stock injector and only mostly teens added to the stock map theres something amiss. It was just a red flag for me and thats why I went no further with the tuning session as the bike sat.

Cam degreeing required maybe?
Could be part of it. My problem was I didnt have time set asside to do anything but check the tune on it and tweak it on the dyno(and didnt even do that once I seen were everything was at on the map and how it was runnin). After driving almost 300 miles one way I had to get back home before too late. The original map didnt even have any fuel added at idle  and it was at 14:1 A/F because of it when idling, I fixed that.
The engine was burning as much oil as it was fuel. He had overfilled the oil by .5qt but we drained it and brought it up to proper level before dynoing it. The engine has several problems.
ouch :thud:
huh, I wonder who we are talking about.....
The way it was explained made perfect sense to me on the dyno, Bo did the right thing. We couldnt exactly tear off the cylinder at the dyno in the rain and check everything then build back up. We were also running out of time. IF the rings were bad, we were dead in the water. Same with piston to cylinder clearance. Bo did right, im getting the feeling people are doubting that for some reason. ???
Thank you again Bo and Chad for everything. Busting your asses and driving out to see me. You guys are great!

Its all depends on where you want the power, and its kinda hard to explain. all the cam companys use a generic cam timing spec and set it to that. All motors TDC will be different. So if your cam is set to one TDC and your motor is slightly different then that will effect power.
http://www.compcams.com/Technical/TimingTutorial/
Read up brotha man....LOLOLOL. I did'nt know much about cams and timing before the raptor, but their is only one way to learn. Read about it, and do it!

Its all depends on where you want the power, and its kinda hard to explain. all the cam companys use a generic cam timing spec and set it to that. All motors TDC will be different. So if your cam is set to one TDC and your motor is slightly different then that will effect power.

Read up brotha man....LOLOLOL. I did'nt know much about cams and timing before the raptor, but their is only one way to learn. Read about it, and do it!
peels' head hurts.
Great read.
     the difference between hp and tq is a value of 12. If that build was in a grizzly you could pull trees right out of the ground. Very nice aaron, once you squeeze a bit more out of it GunnyBunny will have to make you start 5 lengths behind. Also you should put some 25" tires on the back for dragging, im sure you wont have an issue turning them

How thick is a compressed raptor head gasket?
Saw a pic of it getting towed out at the dunes, guess that didn't last long.
yeah i pasted him at the gate in tow. hopefully its not major
think it's a valve spring, it was still running, but no reason to cause more damage.
well here's the results on the dyno anyway.
Before..

After..

Definitely runs good for a relatively small build compared to others out there. Hopefully its a quick easy fix for you.
Carnage report....
Right side Circlip came out...no cylinder damage. Looks like the circlip end augured its way through the circlip valley
So guess I'll be getting another piston. But atleast nothing else was harmed.
Unlucky stroke but at least nothing catastrophic happened (IE dropped bolt/clip syndrome)...Now you got one fancyass ashtray to put on the bench
Circlip crater
better angle
Did Randy install this by any chance?
 nope
 No loctite involved with circlips...or is there?
awww gtfo!!!
:door:
You're real lucky that's all that happened. Could have been much worse.
