Yeah, go in there and tell the machinist: "Now what I need you to do is take about this much off the top, make sure it's flat and I need you to go from corner to corner all the way around.  Can you handle that or do I need to take this somewhere else?"  You may have to coax him but he'll get the jist of what you're saying I think
