So. Got some pics from Tonto yesterday w/ my motor tear down. I'll hopefully have those uploaded by the end of the day here and posted in here.

When talking w/ John @ RE he mentioned that I had bent the intake valves. Suggested looking @ the piston and I should see 2 marks where it hit.

I had tonto check it out for me just out of curiosity, because when I took the motor apart @ my place I would have thought I'd see marks from that happening. Roy sent me a pic of the piston via phone. The pic was small to tell from my side but per him he said there was no marks on it what-so-ever.. So, I'm not really sure what to think right now at the moment. Thinking I'm going to wait until I get everything home and see what I see w/ the valves and give Bo a call tonight and get his thoughts.  It's a Murder Mystery!

Without seeing any thing does anyone have any ideas? Pat (spartan) suggested Valve Entaglement.. and said he'd only heard of it w/ +2 or +3 valves... That was a first I'd ever heard of something like that.

As far as the motor goes. Tonto found my missing cam flange pin :woot:
From what I saw in the pics both covers were torn off and pretty much ready to rock. I believe what he said in chat today was that he took it to a parts washer today to clean out the little chunkies inside :)

progress :) whew.

I wouldn't think valve entanglement was possible with stock or +1 size valves...but stranger things have happened. If there are no marks on the piston (take a UV light to it first and see if anything shows up, could've hit really lightly) how else can a valve bend? Other possibilities I can think of the material was defective and warped under operation or they were high hour valves past their service lifetime (I doubt it based on what I know of these particular ones)...I'd like to know how it happened too cause if the top of the piston doesn't look like it was hit by a sledgehammer then something else happened....Valves just don't normally bend themselves.

VelociRaptor

It can hit when the cam chain jumps off.

Spartan

I know it can hit, but why aren't there any marks on the piston if it was enough to bend the valves? Unless I'm mistaken the piston is made of a softer metal than the valves so wouldn't that be easier to mark up?

I understand that. But we're not seeing any marks in the piston ???

I know it's not very big, but pretty obvious there's no marks in it.  ???
