Here's a picture of our 2008 Challenger SRT that dropped yesterday.
I have some better pictures I'll post up later.

You would be SO dissappointed.
It sounds like a 6 cylinder at startup. There is a clip on YouTube that Cars.com did (Link= http://youtube.com/watch?v=5N_sWP6oWPw) that sounded pretty cool, but in front of me revving it up, it sounded WEAK.

Challenger is HALF the price.
6400 Challengers were built this year. The new Camaro starts production in February 2009. GM is releasing the 6 cylinder model first, followed by the convertible 6 and then the V8 will be released (info from our GM rep).

Charger.(http://www.chryslerweblog.com/images/uploads/charger_gallery_03.jpg)
Challenger has 2 doors only....The 2008 Challenger SRT was limited to 6400 units. The one that just left our store was #2017.

I like them, but they needed to go on a serious diet before they were released. Heavy pigs. The GTO is at the same buffet line.

new gto- grand prix looking car with huge engine

Gotcha.
LeMans, Tempest, Ventura. Even the Chevrolet Chevelle was related (chasis-powerplant-transmission). Newer model Holden Monaro (Australian).
The new GTO was intended only as a three year run here stateside.

If you're gonna do a retro car, give it some retro styling. Gto's are nice cars, just wish the had some more oldschool in them
Retro is good on a new release.

Related? Maybe. But the GTO had a different frame from the lemans, and even though the sheetmetal look very similar to a Le Mans they are a bit different, same as a Tempest. And I no Chevelles carry the same parts as Gto's other than clips and bolts.
I can't wait to get a new Challenger. I definetly am getting one. To me the newest Mustang looks a little like a mustang at the front end, but the rest is just lacking style, I'm used to the huge quarter panels and sweeping windshield that the old mustang had. The new GTO's are pretty fast, but just to lame looking, If I didn't know what they were I would assume they had a 4 cylinder in the car, motor kicks ass but the muscle car lacks heavily.
The new Camaro looks pretty bad ass, some people don't like the dramatic lines on it, but I see the '69 hiding deep in there
And I WILL be getting a new Challenger, I'm just waiting until A)They come out with a Tremec 6 speed B) They offer one with the larger Hemi, 6.1 or 6.5, that is bare, no power anything, just want a few hundred pounds down from factory...
And the color orange with the small amount of Metallic in it is Hemi Orange :grin_nod:
Mine is still Vitamin C orange ;)

Sweet.
This SRT we had didn't have a power seat on the passenger side, and had the "My Gig" stereo. It was almost $41K. Dodge will flood the market on them in the upcoming years and make it much easier to obtain one, so if you can hold out, you'll save a wad of cash.
The Camaro goes into production February 2009. V6 model only.
I like your ride. You'd love the local Mopar club that meets here on the first Saturday of each month. MY favorite one in the club is a 1970 Sublime green 'Cuda.
~Brian
unless your planing on an engine swap i dont think thell be offering a lightweight challenger. the srt8 will have the 6.1 but the r/t will be a 5.7
It's possible they come out with a lighter weight model, mitusbishi, subuaru, and Dodge before has come out with low package, but bigger motor cars. I just would hate to throw out and tear apart the new challenger to make it light weight. Is that true that the Camaro is only coming out wih a v6 at first? If so that sucks, they're not as aggressive looking as the concept, but still nonetheless musclecar looking.
And for the amount I had sold that Orange challenger, about 1 year ago, I could buy another new SRT now, but just want to hang out until new aftermarket products have come out, and the prices have dropped...... and who knows possibly they will come out with a manual 6 speed 6.4 l?

The Viper motors are bitchin and all, but they are based off a small block dodge, 5.9l/5.2l. There could be alot more had if Dodge made a 8.4l, with a DOHC, Hemi style.... I think that would pretty much lay the smack down on most production cars, now throw some turbos or centrifugal blowers and you got some crazy power. But that would probably not happen.
werent the viper rt/10 engines a hopped up ram v10 ???

Kinda, but the Truck v10 is also the small block dodge. Same rod journal sizes, same mains, same valve angle..... then they did a common storke to a 4".... and now I think they are at a 4.125" to make 8.4l..... not sure though

Yes it's true. V6 is being released first.
It's not aggressive looking? I'd have to disagree with you on that.
Dodge really screwed up on the inside of the Challenger in my opinion. It was scheduled to have a retro look inside, but they totally backed up and went cheap. It's the same shell as the Charger with a built in timer for 0-60, 1/8 mile, and 1/4 mile in the information center. The seat in the SRT Challenger was HUGE. +1 for making it wide. It had a suede insert, not my favorite.
The new Camaro is like a blast from the past on the inside and outside.

Magnum, Charger same shell. Too much plastic. I'm sure the Camaro will have just as much plastic.
~Brian
All Dodges have pretty much the same interior. My truck looks very similar to that. The PT had unique interior they should have used something like that. Not that I'm a PT Cruiser fan, but at least it was retro.
Here are a few differences in the prototype and the production car.
This was the interior scheme on the 2008 Challenger prototype.

Yeah, I was pretty bummed about the interior on the Challenger. I still love the car, and it wouldn't keep me from buying one if I was a die hard fan. I would definitely wait a year or so before pulling the trigger on one. You can order 2009's now. We have two 2009 R/T's in the order bank right now.

I have some better pictures I'll post up later.

This vehicle is sold, $45800. We sold it cheap, $5000 over sticker.

Wow, you just went out and bought my favorite car......congrats
No, it's not mine.
I work at a Dodge dealer and this was our first Challenger.
Don't get me wrong, I love this car, but I'm a Corvette man.

Oh, I misread then.....The Z06's are pretty much the biggest bang for the buck as far as performance and price goes....IMO anyway..

Hum why would you want that...besides on a truck for engine braking? Shouldn't it be the other way around? ???

The NPP exhaust, or dual mode exhaust opens at 3500 rpm to flow better at higher rpm. Once below 3500 rpm, the valve closes for a quieter sound.
There is an exhaust module you can buy to leave it open at the flick of a switch, or tie it into your Homelink transmitter.
Here's a sound clip at idle:

We were talking about it at work yesterday.
The Challenger Drag Race Package marks the 70th anniversary of Mopar and forty years since the company's last factory-built drag-race package. Based on the Challenger SRT8, the Drag Race Package features a composite "Body-in-White" direct from the factory and a host of lightweight components, to say nothing of all the parts being deleted for drag-strip use. The engine has been repositioned and the wheelbase actually shortened to optimize weight distribution and driveline angle. Designed in cooperation with the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and previewed back in 2006 by the 392 HEMI Dodge Challenger Super Stock concept at SEMA (pictured above), Mopar will build 100 examples of the race-prepped Challenger with three different engine packages available.
The car will come with an MSO, but it is not for highway use.

gotta give daimler-chrysler some props for this one. Now, if they wait 30 - 40 yrs to sell them, they could make some real cash.

What is the term for the car that gets customers in the door? Though they won't buy it, they would buy another car.
Flagship? I know there is a term. That's what the viper started out as. Like Ford selling that GT90. They may lose money on it, but people will come to check it out and buy a Mustang.

Because they go 300+ mph? Lol.... Comparing a 1500lb Top fuel with 8000 horsepower, that goes 0-100 in .8 seconds is alot different than a 425hp 3400lb car that maxes at 175mph

A dragsters wing is very functional to apply down force across the total length of the body. But the average ricer with a Neon with a wing thats not designed specifically for that body style is probably actually unloading down force from the front end of the car during high speed

no, bassani is an exhaust company
thats what i said
Stopped by the local dealership today and wow what a great looking Muscle car! The black SRT is sick! However, a 20,000 mark up? Which puts the car at 62,000 is atrocious. The sad part is that I was talking to the salesman and he told me they got 21 in and only have 6 left in less than a month's time...All I can say is that the people who bought these are morons....I could see swinging the 42,000..... but for 62,000?....They can eat my ass with a spoon!
Yes, I'm pissed because I cannot afford my favorite car! :grin_nod:

I'm no mopar fan, but I think these cars are badass, and the Challenger is the best looking retro design car out there. I love the new Mustang, and I like the retro input it has, but the new Challenger looks much more like the original Challenger. I really think Chevy shit the bed on the new Camaro, it's not retro cool like the Challenger or the Mustang. And running all the V6 girl-cars first? WTF?? Anyone who is really excited about the new Camaro isn't going to want a wee6. ???

$62000?
I could almost buy a Z06 for that.
You could definitely buy a used Z06 or a two year old Viper for that.

Exactly! :grin_nod: and lets face it...The Z06 is the baddest car in the world for the buck....end of story.
I like the Z06, but I wish it had a removeable top.
It's comfortable, and not really noisy. 198 mph top speed, and it has a great warranty.
Best of all, it will get 27 mpg at 70 mph!!!
~Brian
holy shit the z06 has 198 mph top speed ???
Yup.
It's 8mph faster than my car.
200 mph on the Viper, 205 mph on the ZR1.

I aways loved that stat. High power, high gearing, little wind resistance. Corvette was always meant as a grand touring car. The old standard corvette non Zr1 would make over 30 mpg.
I averaged 28.8 mpg at 75mph today.

 It is funny. Do you pay guzzler tax on it? Ironically, my truck has 2.6 liter 4 cyl, but only manages 19 mpg due to weight and having the drag coefficient of a brick.
It's all about being able to keep your foot out of the throttle...Or wrist in my case. I can see 50 mpg on my bike, but...I never do. Usually 30-40. :grin_nod:
Oh, that's another plus on all models of the Corvette, Corvette Z06, and Corvette ZR1.
No gas guzzler tax!

8) nice! I didn't think there was.
Gas guzzler on the Viper was reduced from $3000 to $1700 this model year.
There's even a gas guzzler tax on the Challenger!

I think the large displacement, heavy cars will be fading soon with the much ballyhooed energy crisis. A high power machine doesn't have to be inefficient. Make it lightweight and aerodynamic.
Where's RK with the pics of his poppa's viper at. Speed it up RK!
I think it's a 2-3 trip for RK and daddy today.
They'll be a little sore after today. I bet there faces will be sore from grinning so much too.
