Just FYI for you guys who ride higher altitudes

You shouldn't have any problems at all in this altitude, you can go with a shitload of compression to make up for the lower amount of air.  So do you think you are gonna be buying the beer yet?

Krandall

It's cool you can run higher compression @ higher altitudes, but how do you make up for what your losing after going high compression?

If you have a 14:1 piston running pump gas. At what point do you need race gas in the hills?

I think it depends on what brand of piston you use, from what I'm gathering a  Racer's Edge 14:1 has ALOT more compression than a Venom 14:1.  I guess we'd have to see what the actual compression ratio is on the Venom since it's the only 14:1 I know of running around here.  I can't imagine we can get by with too much more than this now without race fuel.  I'm liking the Racer's Edge piston, but I'm also a cheap ass and don't want to run race fuel either.  I'll probably have to buy one and try it out, or wait for Kenny's to get here :grin_nod:

The venom may not be exactly 14.1, but it has to be damn close. Having it in my hands next to the stock piston, there just NO compairison. The dome on the venom is huge! Even compairing it to the 12.1, they are'nt even close.

I'd be curious to know exactly what the compression ratio is on all of these pistons so we consumers know what we are getting.  I know the Racer's Edge true 14:1 piston sits in the hole quite a bit, with 0 clearance it's over 15:1 they told me.  I don't know but I'd think that would put you running race gas for sure even at our high altitude.  Somebody local needs to buy one and try it, save me the headache and money to find out :grin_nod:

The highest compression I have seen from a "14:1" on a stock bore has been 12.8:1 measured. The 105 size is about 1/2 a point higher

All these choices and expensive parts have me eyeballing my turbo sitting on the floor   I may have to slap it on there and convert to propane :grin_nod:

OK Aj, I just put mine up at top dead center and it looks like you are good on your cam timing.  If you were to back your mark up on the crank (first set of pics)  to where it should be that will put your timing mark just behind the mark on the head.  Look at the actual tooth to the left of the timing mark on the cam gear, this should line up perfectly, putting you timing mark itself just behind the mark on the head  ;)  Meanwhile, I just found some extra free bike lengths if my top end isn't totally fuckered up :'(

Just a thought here but you said the head was used. Are you sure it was a Kenz head? It also might be worth a call to Kenz with the guys name to see just what that head was set up for?
Jason for Presedent !

We tried a little compression to help aid the head in what it needs to do, stay tuned..................

You'll have to let us know how the "test" ride goes.  Hopefully the added compression makes use of the hi-po head.

It's gonna do something, I'm not sure if it's good or bad but it's gonna do something for sure, lol.
