Alright, so looking like 70/30 right now that I'm going to make this. :woot:

I'll be looking at about 72' with the trailer, should we be planning on taking the south entrance in that case or would we be alright going through the north ? Post 1 said there's only 1 entrance, so I'm a bit confused sandeater, could you clarify ?

Any Camping fees at all ? Nevermind, just saw on post #1 (No)
DB requirements ? 98 ?
Sparkies are required I assume, do they need the forestry approval stamp ?
Any tabs required for out of state riders ?

Anything else you can think of off the dome ?

Camping fee's= None
DB= 96 (Don't let this scare you, I was in Walden of the 4th of July and they never even looked at any of us)
Sparkies are required (Never seen them check for the stamp)
Colorado now requires Out of state folks to get Colorado tags (Lame) $25.25  The new ones for 2011-2012 won't be available till march. I'll post up that info then.

Here is a map I made real quick.  The north entrance isn't very well known but it is much shorter if you are coming from the north (Laramie, WY) to go this way than the main entrance.  It has two-three pretty tight turns so with a big toyhauler or trailer it is probably best to go in the main entrance.  I always go up through Laramie than the Poudre Canyon (Hwy 14 out of Ft Collins) since it is flat and not a canyon drive.

I marked the "To Walden or To Laramie", the main entrance, the north entrance, the main camp area, and the south camp area.  I love camping at the south camping area because you are right next to the dunes and inbetween them.  From the main camp area you have to take trails and a long "road" that is all whoops.  I've almost gotten into a couple of head on collisions taking those trails (on big weekends) so that is another reason why I camp at the south site.  However, there are a lot fewer sites to camp at compared to the main camp.

The north side (Laramie side) is smaller with what we call the "roller drag" (small hills that go up and down and if he go fast enough you can get your front end to lift off the top of the little hills while racing :)) and some decent hill climbs.  The south (bigger side) there is deadmans, the roots hillclimbs, flat drag area, and more open space so that is where more people hang out.

Thats good to know now! My first time up there I asked around in town and they said "Oh, you'll see the dunes and theres a sign saying dunes"

:bs: I was in Wy before I realized where the phuck I was  I'm sure Aaron or someone could rig up a sign or something letting everyone know where to turn.

LOL I know how ya feel.  I think I came within 1/2 mile of the white North Sand Hills "sign" if you want to call it that and felt like I missed the road and turned around to head back to Walden.  It took me a couple of hours to finally find the place.  I even ended up on some random farmer/rancher's property and asked them how to get there Lol.  I was only able to ride there for maybe a couple of hours and then turned around and went back home.  Wow that was 5 years ago!

If Aaron wants some help I am pretty sure him and I will definitely come up with some signs to help everyone out because it can be a tricky place to find and help guide to where everyone will be camping.

denver dude

I drove into Walden from Laramie today.  Drove up to where you turn right to enter the dunes.  There is a $hitload of snow up in the trees surrounding the dunes.  Last year around this time, I could see sand in spots from hwy 125, and the snow run off left some nasty cliffs around the dunes.  This year, more snow, no visible sand, and probably even steeper cliffs in June.     Might want to think about a truck or side by side as an anchor point.  Mabye run a strap off the anchor vehicle with a hook on the end, to grab the quads before dropping 10 to 25 feet into the river.  We have had to do this before in 2008.

Something like this may need permission.... just my 2 cents.
Sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me! >:D

Peelz

just hang a ribbon around a signpost. A rainbow one of course
Krandall: "peelz. I'll be real with you. As much as I hate on you for soccer, I really don't mind it"

We could ask the BLM if it is okay.

I did a dune clean up a few years ago and posted signs for directions and nobody said anything about it but seems like things have changed up there since then so its always good to cover ourselves.

By June deadmans might be pretty tame especially if the rails get down in there and knock it down pretty good.  I remember driving by there in February or March a couple of years ago and you couldn't even get onto Road 6E or whatever it is from Hwy 125 because there was so much snow.

This is what it looked like that year in June:
