I recall reading somewhere that the YFZ450 front calipers are a direct bolt-on
This would be a significant improvement over the 660 calipers IMHO
I have some nice metallic sintered front pads now, & have some braided brake lines on order, but would like to go for some better calipers too

Heard about this, used to be lots of good info posted about it, don't know where it is though.

Krandall

I know for a fact (remember reading the 660 section for whatever reason....) but the yfz calipers are direct bolt on. I think the only thing that had to be modified was the plastic dust shield.

*edit*

looking now to make sure though.

Haven't talked to anyone in a while who has done this, but a few years ago I was talking to someone who said it was an AMAZING upgrade, and WELL worth it ! One day I plan on getting around to this as well. Love to hear your review when you get it done

Looks like a set of the calipers goes from 75-150 bucks depending on the year, condition, and generosity of the seller.

Krandall

Wonder if you'd be able to score a better deal off of YFZ Central..

MAY be worth PM'ing Kyle on here (not sure of his screen name.. mini-ho) he comes in once in a while..

He parted out his last YFZ. He may have parts lyin around.

Missed on a couple of cheap sets, but would have wanted to re-kit, & new pads.
Got a BRAND NEW UN-USED set for $150, too good to pass up!

The new calipers were complete with NEW pads, & I have a set of braided hoses coming as well.
Went whole hog & got a G-Force axle as well.
Now just the rear shock & swing-arm to decide what to do about & i'll be set.
Thinking to cut & stretch the existing swing-arm, but will then need a heavier spring or upgraded shock & spring.

Will post pics & a review of the brakes when fitted

yeah post a review for $hits and giggles. I have NEVER heard of this. Didn't have a problem with the stock 660 ones. But this sounds cool.
Krandall: "peelz. I'll be real with you. As much as I hate on you for soccer, I really don't mind it"

dragonz

Well after the brakes I'm used to on my road bike they are very spongy, even when freshly bled.
I still thought they were fine until I started racing against the 450's, & they have lots more braking power than my 660 does, so I decided time to do something about it!

Some small progress!
You have to cut the plastic disk guards back a little or they interfere with the new calipers, but once this is done, it is a straight bolt up.
