Pancetta is similar I guess to bacon? Just not smoke cured. More used in italian styled dishes. its really delicious. There's another one called proscito (somethin like that) also very similar. Italian as well.
its amazing. You could replace either with bacon, and it'd still be a winning meal.

yeah that looks good. we made a bacon pasta salad sorta like that once...

but that recipe sounds great.
