me and a buddy might make the trip from ca. 14 hours not too bad. is there places to stay close by or do I need to bring the 30ft trailer?

Aaron, better let me find the campground. The one you gave me dirrections to was about as far away from the big dunes as possible.

Where we stayed they have large single campsites with large pivilions. They willl hold 10-15 people or 4-5 vehicles for 60 a night.

fair enough Shawn, We choose that location becuase they had pay showers available, and we were tent camping.

I'm with preddy, the BLM campground is way closer to the good stuff.

I also read some time ago on Duneratt.com that someone was planning on opening another campground even further west than the BLM campground.  It seemed like it may have been the guy that owns the atv rental place - Dune Excursions - but I could be wrong.

Just up the road a few miles.  I did some more checking on duneratt and it sounds like the new campground never happened, so BLM is still the best option as far as I'm concerned.  We can throw Aaron in the lake to wash the stink off of him.  Mostly.
