This thread makes me want to get back into bow-hunting. I used to be pretty good back in the day. Won every tournament I ever shot in and there still should be a shafted arrow laying around my Dads house somewhere. Been out of the game a long time now though.

Same here, I used to shoot for PSE and XI back in the day, I really miss doing that sometimes

I loved my Clearwater Power Mag. Hated the Jennings Buckmaster Split Limb. Never was happy with it. Keep in mind this was back in 1994-1998. I guess I'd have to lean towards Matthews now.

Thanks everyone for the input!

I have been thinking about getting a new bow this year for archery season and I found out that September 1st it will be legal for everyone to hunt with a crossbow only during archery season. The reason I hunt archery is it is fun and the season opens 5 weeks before rifle season. I never thought of owning a crossbow before because it was not legal to hunt with one' but now that kinda sounds like fun and another piece to try and stuff in my closet!
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

I just started shooting bows about 2 years and had no idea what I was missing! It is tons of fun and challenging, which makes it so much sweeter to get a kill with it. And to boot, bow season is the only season open in Iowa at the peak of the rut.

I would like to get into competition shooting, but I am not THAT good yet . I am comfortable hunting knowing I can make a clean kill shot, but in competition I bet I would choke like a little bitch haha!

the key to consistant shooting is draw length IMO. Allot of people get a bow that's actual too long for them.  You should always be pulling against the draw stop on a compound bow, if your just holding it in the valley (From the poundage break to the stop), you're gonna be inconsistant.

I like kisser buttons for competiton too, but too many wierd angle shots to use one for tree stand hunting.

on full draw. I have one spot on my cheek where the string rests when looking through the peep.

I used to shoot with several NFAA National champions, the Unlimited compound champ was unbelievable. He would wrap his thumb around the back of his neck and align his fingers with his chin.

He was amazingly consitant, and would constantly embarass the best release shooters.  A truly amazing talent.

That would be so hard to be consistent you would think! I couldn't even imagine trying to do that

not wrapping the string behind his head. I would bet. if he placed his thumb in the same spot on his neck hed' be pretty darn consistent, that's what it's all about, find something you can remember to do EACH time you shoot, like me. I take a deep breath in, let out so all the air leaves, and hold. *bam*  my groupings if I averaged them I'd say 8"

Have some better and some worse. But.. keep on doin it. Since I started I've gotten so much better.

Inching, Yes I do agree with you.

I can group very well at 10 and 20 yards. At 30 it spreads a little but still could make a kill shot. After that my old bow loses alot of ummmp!

I used to shoot 120 arrows a night after work (two rounds of 5 spot indoor) we usually wouldn't group unless something really went wrong with the bow.  Robinhoods with Easton ACCs gets reall expensive

I'm gonna have to see if my Dad still has the arrow and if he'll take a pic for me. I'm pissed because I broke it years and years ago though. I was ceaning out my hunting chest one day and laid it on the floor and wasn't paying attention and stepped on it. It broke right where the field tip in the traveling arrow had just came to a stop inside of the arrow which got shafted. They were XX78 Super Slams if I remember correctly?
