i've been reading my tear down manual of how to get my engine out that seems like a trick but very doable.

my question are:

does anybody have any good ideas to keep bolts straight? so i don't loose them i mean.

what gaskets will i need to replace with new? (dabigbratj told me on the phone but i would like an online list)

what should i becareful of when i'm finally into the engine? i mean is there any springs that are going to shoot out and hit me in the eye and stuff like that.

i have a few other questions but i can't think of them right now. i will post them up when i think of them.

the bolts you would just want to bag them and label them to keep track
engine is easy to get out just a pain kind of time consuming
you will need head gasket base gasket which you can have new one i have then clutch cover gasket and stator cover gasket.
nothing is going to shoot out couple little things just want to make sure they stay there and i will show you sense im helping you well i think i am lol let me know if anything else

only advice i'll give is be careful when installing the crank not to shake the crank case halfs to much because ur shift drum and forks will fall out.. trust me i know and they were a lil tricky for me to get back in...

When I pulled my entire raptor down to PC the frame, the BEST BEST BEST thing I did taking it apart was investing in a box of Ziplog baggies and a sharpie marker.

Each thing of bolts I took out like.... top motor mount/bolts I put in a baggie, marked on it what it was.. With some of them that were smaller that I knew I'd forget, I even looked them up in the manual and wrote what page they were on in the manual so I could reference it. good luck w/ the tear down Warren G 8)

The baggies and marker are a must have, but I have a few more that help. Take a camera with you and take pics of how things look, I took them with my phone. A real pic beats the manual pics. Also zipties!! Like for the gears that go on the counter balancers. I would pull them off after taking a pic then stack them in order and run a ziptie through them and tighten. I did this with all the parts I wanted to make sure stayed in order or were quetionable by looking at the manual pics. Also for the case bolts here is what I did. I marked a number one on the case where the first bolt I removed and went in a clockwise pattern when removing, took the bolts and laid them out in order on a piece of masking tape. When all bolts out laid put another piece of tape over them, then marked which one was the first. The tape keeps them in order because there are some that are different lengths. Hope this helps.

thanks guys this really helps. i was thinking about doing the zip lock bag idea to start with. lol it's good to know i'm not the only one peranoid about going into the engine.

one more question. my manual says i need a bunch of special pullers. there's one that is a crank shaft pulling. can't i just tap it out with a rubber mallet? and what about the others?

I took pictures of everything i removed and also then put each piece in a bag and lebeled it. Then when i split the cases i put the right case half on an empty 5 gallon bucket. with the shafts up so that nothing could fall out.

no hammers. I bought the tool to remove the stator and then went to harbor freight and bought a gear puller set to push the crank out. Then when i put the crank in i used the flywheel and stator to pull it in. Cause the crank dont get pressed or pushed back in. it has to be pulled in. If you pound on it with a hammer you risk a chance of pushing the crank halfs together. which will then seize the rod.
