well.. I guess  i better throw in my 2 cents..

I have had this argument a thousnd times.. and I really don't wanna do it again

all of the bikes are great.. really..

BUT..

I am 6 foot and almost 200 lbs..
I have owned 2 R6's and never once did I feel it was underpowered or small
nobody on here can ride one to its potential..
you will NEVER outgrow it..
the bike will always be "Better than you"

as for the GSXR750
GREAT bike..
but it is the exact same size as the gsxr600
the parts are interchangeable..
same frame..
just slightly more power

the people that say you will out grow a 600 are full of it..
I would love to challenge them to a nice little race around the twisties
I pass 1000's all the time (till we hit a straight away)

modern 600's will kill you pretty fast..
make no mistake of that..
those bikes are pure evil!

don't be afraid to buy a 6
they are GREAT bikes..

now.. if you are set on a 1000
my buddy has a NICE GSXR for sale..

I agree with what Hefe said. I've lost one too many friends to street bikes who had to have liter bikes or had no prior riding experience before hoping on a SS. I always recommend the Yamaha FZ6 or the Suzuki SV650 for a first bike to someone looking to get into the sport and sometimes even the lil Ninja 250 :) No matter how prepared you think you are the first time you crack the throttle on a new SS bike with scare the ever loving shit out of you.

I've been riding for over 20 years and currently have an 03 R6 that I take to the track on the weekends and it's an absolute blast! The track I ride on I beat the liter bikes quite easily as the straights aren't all too long and they can't hang in the turns with the smaller 600's. I do ride it on the streets, but not nearly as much as I did since no matter how good you are there's always going to be that one asshole on the cell phone that isn't looking

Whatever you decide, just take it slow (as hard as it will be :) ) and always be on the lookout for the fastest and safest escape route if the need arises

I had a buddy buy a SV650 for a first bike. He had it for one season and upgraded to a GSXR750. Good starter bike, but you'll be looking for more soon.

I suppose its a good idea to start small and work up.
Just a little 81hp trail bike.

I used to ride dirt bike when I was younger and just wanted a starter bike this year and decided to go with the SV650. It has decent power and the bottom end is nice being that it is a V twin. I'm going to upgrade within the next two years for a Victory Kingpin Touring bike, but still keep the SV for a commuter. For traffic and tight turns and over all maneuverability it's really hard to beat a standard bike. Sure it's not a rocket, but how much speed do you need unless you plan on racing?

what do you mean liter bike? lol to me its like littering...?  preddy why do you say i will be looking for more if i get like a fz6? just curious. like is it slow after a while, not the best handling or what? thanks

preddy08

They refer to 1000CC bikes because their displacement is One liter. Kinda like a V-8 mustang is a 5.0 or 4.6.

In all honesty I've rode SV650, firebolt 1200, all the GSXRs, ninja 500 & 600, R6 and R1, and a Katana 600.

I started out on a 92 CBR 600 and it was a great bike, but I wanted a liter bike. So it was I went out and got a R1. Its always smart to get a learner bike, then work up from there. The power on the R1 is just STUPID!!! I could pull the front wheels up at over 100MPH. I found my self getting in alot of trouble with that much power, so be careful.

The FZ6 would be a step above the SV650 and a step below the R6. I think that would be a good learner bike for you.

I know that you'll have a itching for more power in the next year or so.

Good advice preddy.  You can always put a pipe on it as well. Depends on how you ride too. FZ6 is a naked bike, or standard, upright position, but still fast. That "little" FZ6 can hit 140 mph.  :grin_nod:

russ-russ

Yup, the gold 5 spoke wheels are pretty secksy on the black bike.  You could always get the stock wheels powdercoated.

700rSE
