Hour Meter/Tach from Yamaha
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/accessories/acscitemdetail/5/442/1848/13490/all/1/1931/0/detail.aspx

Deluxe Hour Meter/Tachometer
Yamaha's Engine Meters help you keep track of your engine's operating hours. The Deluxe Engine Meters include pre-programmed service intervals at 10 hours (initial) and every 50 hours thereafter. A flash alert displays for a 2-hour period upon reaching the specified interval. Includes hour meter and tachometer functions. Operating temperature: -40°F-160°F; -40°C-71°C. Battery life is 7-10 years (non-serviceable).

I'm surprised this unit is non servicable  ???

It's non-servicable, because like the others in the $35-$50 range they are waterproof.  The feature that makes them waterproof?  The electronics are molded in place with a poly-type resin that once it hardens is waterproof and tamperproof.  Yes, if you try hard enough you can get the unit apart but the likelihood that you will damage the electronics is extremely HIGH.  Again, these units are almost all made by one manufacturer.  That manufacturer just packages and labels them for other companies.

Krandall

That makes sense... Hmmm. I guess $40 isn't all bad for 7-10 years

I almost ordered this hour meter until I saw it only reads to 8,000 rpm's & the Hardline Hour Meter/ Tach only read up to 8,000 rpms

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/accessories/acscitemdetail/5/442/1848/13490/all/1/1931/0/detail.aspx

This hour meter offered doesn't say what rpm it reads to, can someone verify the units max rpm reading?

No reason to buy a Yamaha non servicable unit vs Hardline Hour Meter that connects to spark plug  ???

2008 WR450F  Features Cool digital enduro computer offers speedometer, clock, tripmeter, etc., in basic mode—or pace management functions such as timer, distance-compensating tripmeter, average speed, etc., when switched to race mode.

Yamaha has this for a dirt bike but doesn't have it for a quad
I want one  :(

Are you saying THIS (the one on the bike) unit is only $40???  What bike is it on??? I'm sure it could be wired in to work... unless it reads an ECM signal voltage that could vary between machines.  I'm also in the market for a tach... the hour meter would be nice but the tach is what I'm after.  Le us know what you end up with... and how it performs.

It seems all the Hardline Hour Meters only register to 8,000 Rpm's & the one from Yamaha doesn't include this bit of info.

Add the Meter, hood & some wires maybe  ???

If adding bar risers I wonder if this meter will be viewable?
