Are roll bearings superior to ball bearings? I'm not sure what the benefit would be. ???

I was told that ball bearings don't handle the side load very well vs roller bearings.  The axle is side loaded all the time whether track riding or recreationally.  With tapered roller bearings the side load is controlled & with regular service/inspections they will outlast your quad providing they are free of water & sand/dirt.  The benefit is not replacing bearings & just servicing the carrier.  I think the seals are reusable if your careful  ???

The only thing I'd question, is how do the seals hold...  I can see how roller ones would hold better, they have a bigger surface to hold the quad weight. Do you know what the cost is for having a carrier modified to hold roller bearings?

I can modify the stock carrier to fit tapered bearings , 140.00 + shipping  ,  you ship me your good carrier(blank) (no bearings) and I will put in the tapered set ... 
To answer some of the questions on the site ..   I have done quite a few of them and 2 of them are on a hybrid 700 with a hyabusa motor (street drags)  200 hp + !!!  and they are holding up really well, he runs the axle , carrier and lock-nut .
The seals hold up very well , with regular maintenance you will have no problems .

Is regular maintenance just pulling the seals and packing the inside w/ grease or do these come with grease zerks?
$140 seems like a decent deal since new aftermarket carriers w/ new bearings are around $150.

Good question Krandall. I'm wondering the same thing.

What is the benefit of this? IMO there is nothing wrong with the stock bearings (or stock equivalent). The problem seems to be with the seals. The stock seals seem to do a poor job of keeping foreign material out of the bearings. Once this happens, the bearings don't stand a chance. I think this would be the case for any style of bearing.

Couldn't regular maintenance prolong stock style bearings as well? (once we find out what regular maintenance is)

I'm not knocking RPM at all. Just asking for more clarification so I can understand why one would choose to do this instead of putting a $50 set of replacement bearings/seals in when the stock ones wear out. A new polished aftermarket carrier with new bearings/seals is around $200 from what I've seen. Many of us run aftermarket swingarms with open housings. This allows direct view of the stock carrier. The stock carrier, as we know, is a very dull cast aluminum. Why would someone spend $140 to get new bearings in the stock carrier when we could spent $60 more and get a shiny polished aluminum carrier?

Again, I'm not knocking anyone's products or services. There must be a reason this is done, I just don't know what that reason is.
