id take any of the FI 450's. EXCEPT THE LTR F  ck THE LTR

I would have to disagree with the statement.

If I was in the market for a 450 class bike, it would be at the top of my list.

They are damn nice overall, just a little lacking on power compared to the rest of the big bores.  My buddy had one that I put a bit of seat time on, and it is by far the most comfortable quad I have ever been on.  I do really like the 08 special edition grizz, but the polaris just has me hooked with the 70hp.

I went window shopping-that thing is pretty sweet. 70 hp!, but 780 lbs? :jaw: Yikes, they do come stock with 14" wheels.

maybe I read it wrong, but can you imagine the damage you could do with a 780 lb 70 hp quad? I am sure it is torquey, being a EFI v-twin.

If you were gonna be track riding only.  The stock configuration would not be useful out here on the trails.

same boat as the afforementioned polaris. A giant overpowered hunk of metal. The grizzly was rated higher than the 1000 in the few tests I have seen.

Good luck finding a big bore ute without a CVT....the Honda is the only that doesn't come with it, but they are about 10 years behind on their technology anyway.  The CVT is a damn good setup, it may not be as fun as a manual to some....but its good at what it is made for.

They are heavy pigs, but 70hp is 70hp.  The Renegade which isn't a whole lot lighter and has 10 hp less nipps at the heels of a stock rappy 700, if the driver on the raptor isn't good...then you wont catch a renegade until you are topped out.  The 850 popo will be just as fast, or faster than the 'gade.  They are torque monsters too.

The arctic cat thundercat is a monster stock, not quite as much power as the new polaris 850 in stock form...but they are no slouches.  The motor is a 950cc twin, which is basically a version of their 1300cc snowmobile engine with smaller pistons.  I have heard rumors of guys boring the 950 to accept the 1300 snowmobile pistons and they are putting down around 130hp.  I have yet to see one of these in person, but I would sure love to test one out.

Keep in mind that these big quads aren't built for drag racing though, they are just powerhouses that are a blast to drive.  When it comes to mud, rock crawling, work, or whatever...they are perfect.  They weren't designed to beat a raptor in a race (but some will), they were designed to be a huge adrenaline rush, and never be lacking in the power department.
If you think its overkill, then don't buy one.  Thats the American way...bigger, better, faster, stronger.  Do we really need pickups with 600+ lb-ft torque from the factory?  Do we really need 1000hp supercars?  Do we really need 700cc sport quads?  How about 200mph sport bikes?  Hell no, but I sure want it all!
'07 powerwheels raptor...with a belt driven twin screw centrifugal turbocharger!  Wait for it, wait for it...!

Peelz

well said Langford. They are not supposed to be light. I would love to rip around the muddy creeks around here with a 70 hp utility 4x4. Tearin' some $hit up! I think the renegade is 50 lbs lighter though. But...you can't haul your "beverages" on a Renny.

yea i know im just saying its not my kind of riding... but for a work quad, that thing was a beast. it easily pulled a pop up camper about 200 yds uphill out of our woods. and it was full of flood mud and had 2 flat tires

I'll take a Brute Force over the can ams and Polaris utes anyday. Drop an 840 from FST, Fundy or AMR and you'll have a 120+ CRANK HP beast.
