Hey quick question:
All around what are the tire sizes and wheel sizes for the raptor?
I am for sure ordering new tires and possibly new wheels this weekend.
Front 10-5's with 21-10-7's
Rear 9x9 with 20-10-9's
sweet, thanks Aaron.

Isnt that the same size as the 350's?
So.. Tires..
It's Tire Height - Rim Size - Tire Width?
Say I have a tire I'm looking at thats 20 x 9 x 12
and stock rims are 9x9
What are the advantages?
this scenario is purely fictional. Just wondering

20 (Height) 12 (tire width) 9 (rim diameter)
wide track ='s better hook-up and stablity. aren't you close to your total width limit now ???
Yeah, I was just using that as an example.
I'm looking @ rim/tire combos just making sure I get the right thing.

Well for your racing I would choose between the Razr 2's and the HS GNCCs. Best two tires on the scene IMO. Doubt you can go wrong with either
Spend the $ on rims or get a few set of stockers for spares, you gonna need them :'(
Yeah, I have 2 sets of stock rims already so that's the route I''m thinking.
I'm looking at the Holeshot XC's.
Thoughts?
I originally was thinking the RAZR II's but I've heard nothing about them but being heavy.
Thought the GNCC's but didn't look much into them.

I raced the GNCCs last season, and loved them. Front tire sidewalls are stiff so less chassis roll. Also the rears on the GNCCs are better self cleaning for muddier conditions. The R2's are tough as nails, but they slide too much IMO. Great straight line accelleration though :grin_nod:
I would spend the extra coin on the tires. You put so much $$ and effort into your bike already, you need good shoes to plant the power
I have XCR's and LOVE THEM!!!!! I have beat the shit out of them for 3 years and still 70% or better! The first time I rode with them I about flipped, they hook that good. XCR's and the GNCCs are the lightest weight 6 plys out. My next tire will be a tough decission between the XCR again and the GNCC. The GNCCs are a pound less than the XCRs.
If I were you I would get 4+1 front wheels. The more the center of the tire is centered over the ball joints the more precise you steering will be. Not to mention less bump steer.
I have used razr, razr2, I-razr, Kenda klaw, holeshot H-D, holeshot standards, XCR, shreaders, Pure sport bandits, and some others that I am forgeting about.
XCR's ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The weight savings alone are worth it for me!!!!
What are stock wheel offsets? 5+3?
I was talking about the front wheels, I believe they are 3+2. so if you go to a 4+1 you will be an inch narrower on each side, but less bunp steer and better handling.
I have +2 arms and 4+1's and come in around 48 inches.
I just put GNCCs with Baja rims on mine and I might have gained 1.5 pounds at each corner over my STUDDED stockers. Thye hook up like crazy even the silty river bottom I ride in.

That is correct, but the closest after market replacement is 9x9 that I've found

I would like a 9 x 10 rim to mount some Cheng Shin C826's on. I haven't found a rim in that size yet & if you came across one I'd be so very happy (fingers crossed) :)
Krandall, Dennis Kirk has a price match guarantee, they will beat anyone's price by $1 if they stock the rims your locking for.......

I know that rear is correct. Not sure about the front.
Can anyone really tell a difference between tires on weight? I have the razr 2's and I can't tell at all. All I know is they tear shit up.
On my bro's 250x we could tell going from stock to RAZR's in the rear alone. It was almost 4lbs lighter in the back. It was a huge difference.

It may be a "huge difference" but can you really feel it. I have no idea how because I went from stock to the razr 2's and didn't feel a thing. I think its all in your head and you guys are buying into a sales pitch.

If you say so.. But you know there's a reason guys buy buffed straight paddle tires vs. a molded straight paddle tire... ;)
Less rotation mass = more useable HP.

Then line two quads up, one with buffed paddles and one without. See if it matters.

thanks Colorado.
Note: IMO opinion, the molded vs buffed paddles is a wash unless you are making mega hp. and are wide open as in a race, then you do want less rotating mass.My buddy paid 500 for his skattraks, I paid 120 for sand sharks, he was gettin stuck everywhere. We swapped not much difference either way.

Parsitic loss is the enemy >:D
On a smaller engine its more noticable than a 700
If the rider can't feel it doesn't mean its not there

I understand the formula. But if I can't feel it, and I can't see a difference (ie. getting down the track faster) then it has no bearing.
I know on my Raptor I made up for the little bit of wieght gain in traction. The bike is a lot faster out of the hole now.

For every one pound of rotating mass you take off your bike its about equal to taking 3 pounds of dead weight off.
I had the razr2s and sold them, not only were they heavy as sin, they would pack up with mud and become completly useless like slicks!!!! Maybe its the mud here, its pretty sticky, and it sticks in the tires like glue!
Maybe I'm just anal, but I want every last ounce of power/performance.

But I agree the R2's are way to heavy for my application. I love the GNCCs

It may take a dyno to measure the difference in this case. IDK
When I installed Kenny's +2 TB & Tony tuned the A/F I gained 0.5 seconds in acceleration that was definately noticable on the butt dyno.
I guess the question now is how much change in HP can be detected by rider "feel"

Krandall is correct, Less rotation mass = more useable HP
Parsitic loss is the enemy >:D
On a smaller engine its more noticable than a 700
If the rider can't feel it doesn't mean its not there
I understand the formula. But if I can't feel it, and I can't see a difference (ie. getting down the track faster) then it has no bearing.
No problem with the mud and dirt here. They really tear shit up. I guess if you feel better in your minds that the that small loss of weight is doing something thats all that matters.

Oh and the information that I posted above may be wrong. I have herd numbers other wise. Those are MANUFACTURES weights. And we all know how accurate those are.

Thats good. But I have a feeling if I put your rims and tires on my quad it wont make a lick of difference when I get to the end of the track. Sweet dreams.
Yeah, I'll let those numbers go in one ear and out the other.

You're just naive... that's all...
3-4 lbs on tires alone is not a small loss of weight ???
we're not saying they don't tear shit up. Hell, they have a f*ckin agressive tread pattern on those baby's. But, When you've done the big things.. That's where you have to sit down and go through the little things..
I only do the little things that I can see a difference with. Thats not naive, thats common sense.

What is the rule? For every 7 or 11 lbs of weight removed frees up 1 HP?

for a stock raptor (@38.5hp) with 190lbs rider it's 15.8 lbs/ per HP

rules or no rules, sayings or no sayings. If I can't tell a difference, which in the tires I tried, I couldn't. Its fucking pointless for me to worry about the extra weight of my tires. And in the end my tires hooked up better then the others I tried.
Yea its something like that. You can do what ever you want, but I know I have tried about every tire out there, and XCR's is where its at. I will go out on a limb and try the GNCC's next season.

That great that you dont worry about weight, but some of us do and every little bit matter. No matter what people tell you.
There is alot of mods that you cant tell a difference, but you know its there. I put kennys valve on and didnt really notice a thing. Lookin at the dyno graph thats 4 hp that I am not feeling. Maybe my butt dyno is broken from you g a y phugger
I say if your happy with the feel and look of your tires, that's all that matters. It's YOUR CHOICE, not the worlds opinion. XCRs, GNCCs, R2's are all good (Proven) tires.

People should know me by now, I'm all for dumping money into my quad. And I do like to watch the weight. But when it came down to tires I couldn't tell a difference between the tires I tried, in fact my razr 2's hooked up better so that is why I went that way. So for the tires I tried I went with the ones I could feel the difference, not the lighter ones.
And for me its just as easy to keep eating better and dropping the pounds. That I can feel on and off the quad.
Its not always the bigger the better too. The BEST dirt drag knobbie tire out is the OLD 400ex stock tires. If you look at them they look like a piece of shit stock tire, but the hook like mad! If you have a pair laying around you could get big bucks for them because the stoped making them quite a while ago.

That is very true, it has a lot to do with how the rubber flexes. I'll have to look up what those tires look like. Do you know what year they were made?
Ill try to find you a pic.
give me a second.
Thanks, and check your PM's Preddy, I had a question.

My memory is a bit foggy but I think I remember those. My friend has a 400 back in the day.
9" Hiper dual bead lock wheel with 20-10-9 XCR weighs 19lbs. This is by a really nice digital bathroom scale that is accurate to .5 lbs. I weighed the wheel and tire by its self and with me on it (subtracting my weight out).

I'll make sure to do the same next weekend with mine so we can see how much more mine is. But thats not bad, do you have any idea how heavy they say the rim is?

I have the outlaw machining. That cuts out around 1.5 pounds off each rim. So I'm around 6 pounds. But I'll weigh next weekend to see where I'm at.

I just remembered I have a fish scale and a luggage scale. I will re weigh them tonight. I remember that story about Grant weighing his quad on 4 bathroom scales and it was way off.

yeah I remember that, but that was a whole quad, yours was just a tire. And some bathroom scales are right on. But I agree, I plan on using my digital fish scale.
Same here brotha!
So what did you guys find out?
Nothing yet, cause Erich's afraid that I'm right    8)
My quad is 300 miles away right now and I wont be up there till late wednesday night. And what are you right about?
Chill man I'm just ribbin ya. I could not care less whos tires are lighter.
I think mine will be heavier, just not sure how much more. My think was I would not be able to tell any difference at the end of the track with your set or my set on. But I'll weigh my set when I'm up there.
I just re-weighed my tires and wheels and they came in at 17.5. This is with a fish scale.

NO NO NO NO, the front XCR's blow ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I traded for razr2 fronts and could not be happier!!
Well I guess what kinda riding you do, if you are on hard packed surface then your alright, but when it gets loose the front end pushes really bad with the XCR's.
well, I haven't ordered yet. and I really didn't like the look of the tread pattern on the front. maybe I will keep looking, I was thinking honestly the Razr2 fronts. ???
in the XC racing I'll see Hard Packed and loose.. so... Doesn't sound like the XCR fronts is what I'm lookin for. I really like the Razr 2 pattern because the center tread sits a bit higher than most. but I'd like to keep to ITP (no cross breeding lol) ideas?

I went from the XCR fronts to the Razr'2s and could not be happier!!! THEY GRAB.....HARD!!! I think i cut a foot off my turning radius with the new tires.
I would not hesitate to buy the Razr 2's again, I was thinking that the GNCC fronts look alot like the razr 2's but maybe a bit more updated.
GNCCs have a more rounded profile than the R2 fronts, I like how they let me pick a line vice pulling to an established rutt
Yeah, those GNCC frnots look a LOT better than the XCR's. Think that's wjhat I'm gonna go with. I wish I could find a damn code. you'd think off of..
RaptorSource, Raptor.Forum, Modded.Raptor, Bluetraxx, and exriders, I'd be able to find one..
I guess I'll just bite the bullet.. If I don't hear anything from anyone. I'll just order them... 45 mins and counting till I order
Did Brian take that code that I gave out the other day?
I tried it and it said invalid.
Last code I knew of expired 6-22, it was a $25 gas card w/ $200 purchase. Haven't seen anything since then.

Glad to see you get some real tires. The stocker are a freekin joke!!! Dont worry about people saying that they wear down fast. I have no idea what they are smoking. I have had my tires for atleast 3 seasons and they are still over 60%. They have seen many rocky trips, plenty of street time too. Locally our trail are pretty hard packed.
When I first got them they were SOOOO soft and thought I would see maybe a year at best. I could almost bend the treads in half.

My stocker fronts arent' bad. I like them honestly. But, since I'm getting new rears I figure I'll be hooking up better, I better get some aggressive fronts to match so my front end isn't pushing throw the turns.
Rear stockers didn't last me a full year even.
I picked up a brand new set of YFZ take-offs for $100shipped on rim and they lasted me just over a year (not bad). The hook up on them was amazing. I'd take another set of them if I could find a cheap deal like that!
Now I have to go burn off the original stockers. Video probably 3 weeks! :grin_nod: :grin_nod: :grin_nod:

Yea the stock YFZ tires are pretty good, but if you are running XC races you will get flats left and right. They are one light tire!!!
Stock tires burned off make great dyno/drage tires. My cell phone screen is a vid of me burning off my stock tires.
Nice!!!
I'm hoping to have the Helmet cam ready to go for the XC Race so I can get the first 40-60 mins of it! ;)

I run a set of yfz take offs but I'm only trail riding. IMO they're a great tire and for the 150 bucks I paid on wheels for take offs I'd buy as many sets as I could find. But I agree that a 2 ply radial won't cut it for XC.

How hard are tires to mount by yourself?
I'll only have evenings available to go up north put the tires on the rims.
Tires are a PITA to mount yourself

Can Wally World swap tires on 10" rims ?
Ok, I'm back from michigan and I weighed my rear tire. I came in at 19.2 for my razr2's on omf beadlocks. This was on my digital fish scale, also worked great for my 6.4 pound small mouth on saturday.

I've had wally world swap my tires before, however the last time i went the said they were no longer doing it becuase their "chuck" for breaking the bead were getting broken becuase there not designed for a rim less than 12" :( Got the same answer from Big - O tires too. :(
My uncle has a shop up north. I'll just give him a buzz tonight and see how long he's open. He's usually willing to work for beer!
17.5 to 19.2.......................not bad at all.
I had wally world do a pair of my predator wheels and the scratched the SHIT OUT OF THEM!!! After a week of battleing they cut me a check for the price of NEW predator wheels. Total was about 300 bucks!!!!!!!!
Needless to say I ran the scratched wheels and bought something cool for myself.
I was happy with that. I know the difference was mostly my tires. But I thought I would be about 2-3 pounds more per tire and rim. So I'm happy with less then 2 pounds difference.
19.2 for BOTH rear tires?

19 for two would be nuts. No tire and rim set up can hit that.
I wonder what some of those ultra light drag wheels on douglas .90s are ???
Can you guys tell me what to expect pricewise for tire swap on atv rims? Need to swap out for paddles. -I don't care about scratches. They're on ITP steels. boo-friggin-hoo

Just a heads up Krandall....I will say that these tires have crazy hook up on the trails....but I must also tell you that my left rear is seriously out of round, I can definitely feel the wobble....I also had a problem with them locking to the outer lip of my rims as well...I tried to inflate them to 36 p.s.i in order to get them to seat but the left rear (out of round tire) is the only one that seated properly. Just a heads ups....I seriously don't see how I.T.P. let my left rear get passed quality control? BTW, I had read in a review that the XCR's were known to have out of round problems, but figured that was most likely a fluke and wouldn't happen to me. Yes, I had them mounted at a Polaris shop of all places. ;) I was in the shop while they were mounting them as well and they did everything the right way....It's just out of round....I don't even know if it would be worth it to go through the trouble of having tp pay to have them removed and then have to wait on the new ones to get here before I could ride.... :mad:It's not "too" noticeable on the trails of course because of the slower speeds and all...but on any flat hard surface where you can open her up is really buggin me...
Polaris shops always have lube on hand for their customers
