QuoteOh, no, they told us, Iraq isn't a war about oil. That's cynical and simplistic, they said. It's about terror and al-Qaeda and toppling a dictator and spreading democracy and protecting ourselves from weapons of mass destruction. But one by one, these concocted rationales went up in smoke, fire and ashes. And now the bottom line turns out to be ... the bottom line. It is about oil.

Alan Greenspan said so last fall. The former chairman of the Federal Reserve, safely out of office, confessed in his memoir, "Everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil." He elaborated in an interview with The Washington Post's Bob Woodward, "If Saddam Hussein had been head of Iraq and there was no oil under those sands, our response to him would not have been as strong as it was in the first Gulf War."

Correct. BUT, there's tree hugging hippies here that won't allow drilling here and would rather see a country and it's people thrown into termoil vs our own.

I'm sure there's more to it than what meets the eye (TRANSFORMERS)

But when you have someone like Alan Greenspan saying "Everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil."

I'm sure as hell going to listen to him, he's a guy that has nothing to lose.

He's also the guy that knows nothing about the subject.  He's seeing it from an outside view.  Yes, he knows more then the average guy.  But he's basing it off an opinion like everyone else.  I just finished his book awhile back and there is quite a few things he is wrong about or I disagree with.  But non the less he is still a smart guy.

Alan is a very smart man, and he is well respected.

We were told the Iraq War was about WMD's, but we now know that's bullshit. I don't think it's completely about oil, but more of an ego thing with the current administration....since he threatened his "daddy", Bush has had a hard on for Saddam.

It was pretty weak sauce to go into Iraq, but we can't do anything about it now we are committed.

Time to severe that commitment. Those assholes don't want us over there, and no matter what we do they'll adopt Shira Law there after the democracy fails.

It will fail for sure if we leave now. I don't like us being over there either, but we have to stay for a while.

Agreed

Even if we stay, the opposition will gain favor against the democracy. Voters will vote to kill the constitution, and install Sharia Law. Iraq is mostly Sunni Muslim, as in Iran. Sharia Law is "Allah's Law". I don't think there's a chance for any democracy in the Middle East. Too many devout Muslims with strong beliefs.

Yeah, I don't know if there's any good way to go about it for them in Iraq.

we leave. Iraq government fails.

we stay. Iraq government fails.

All we can do is police the joint and force democracy down their throats. A few Iraqi law makers want us out now. Hell, one of their own even shot at our troops recently. The more we push and shove, the faster we wear out our welcome.
