Not at all! Thank you for all the great input, I feel a lot better about getting this quad.. The guy has delayed again on test riding the quad, sometime this week. I did get approved for the loan though!   Anyways, in the spirit of FRIENDLY and FUN competition, I will call my raptor the outlaw eater :batman: I will run my friends stock 07 outlaw 525 IRS as soon as I get my quad and post some results up here!!

ALSO what horsepower does the stock raptor put down? I am curious to the amount mine will put down with the computer chip, intake, exhaust...Does anyone know what type of power I might see? At this point in time I don't know the brand of the mods, but that they are on there. Thanks!

the commonly excepted stock HP # is ~38.  Dyno dependent, big three raptors hit 45-50HP

There's a few tricks to drag racing the rappy.  1st)  Launch in Second gear  2nd)  Shortshift, don't wind out the raptor  3rd) choose a long enough race to show that 450 who' daddy  :grin_nod:

rider skill & traction play a huge part in that question.  I let some 450 guys race mine in 300' dirt drags & they didn't like it. My Raptor was getting beat because they were winding the Rappy out to the top RPM's.  They were told more than once to shift early but they didnt care to listen.

I just read Colorado's post

Everyone agree to launch in 2nd gear? I will deff. test that out, and short shift instead of the wind? What other tricks can you show me? I am an experienced rider, but I don't think I have rode a quad where I have not shifted at/close to the RPM top out of each gear so that will take time getting use to..how soon should I shift?

Air pressure son  ;)  Run about 3 1/2-4lbs in the rear  :grin_nod:

Yes 2nd gear starts.  If you wind the Rappy up you can feel the power fall off & then its just rev's, grabbing another gear early
You might want to try a 15T front sprocket as well depending on where you ride.

I had a 13/38 sprocket combo & was starting in 3rd on dry clay with plenty of wheel spin  ::)

Sweet I am so excited to learn a new style of riding, I am not worried about short shifts I will be able to feel when power is at peak and its time for another gear...so 2nd gear ? 1st everytime for racing up a sand dune hill? Most of my racing starts off you going down a quick slope then a long climb up a semi-steep dune.. I will have paddles....ill mess around with air pressure...I will short shift...2nd gear start....what about the sprocket now? What does the sprocket do and whats its purpose as far as making changes? Smaller = more torque / less top end? I want more low end power I am not concerned about top end.

Front sprocket
13T   -5 mph
14T    stock
15T   +5 mph

Rear
36   +3.2 mph
37   +1.6 mph
38   stock
39   -1.6 mph
40   -3.8 mph

Gearing is all dependant on tire selection, tire rollout, # of paddles, tire pressure, sand conditions, rider skill, rider weight, swing arm length, elevation & quad HP.  I'm not a sand guy but playing with tire psi & gearing should get you closer to being dialed in.  Front sprockets are cheap, I'd buy 2 different sprockets & test them all in the same day to feel the difference & what you like.
Beware of  PMS
Powerstroke Modification Syndrome ( It will cost you thousands of dollars  :P)
