Here's a few ideas for survival off grid

Fresh water - Sand point well

Water purification/cooking
Denatured alcohol stove - single jet, double jet, coil type. http://youtu.be/3Bl0Yr_wS0U

Solar cooking in pyrex containers

Heating
Rocket mass heaters (rocket stoves)  http://youtu.be/-jzKKIHhTU0

waste oil heater  http://youtu.be/X51gD6YXNko

babington burner http://youtu.be/pBC7fCOGmi0

brake drum heater http://youtu.be/Sir6r1xlHi4

Showers - solar

In my search for fire & fire related things I came across these videos.  Some of the videos are from tree huggers living off grid & I laughed at them but when America turns to crap everyone will need some survival skills & caveman technology. Is there an app for that ?

The most appealing to me ? The rocket mass heater, they are used in 3rd world countries & are very veratile as they can be fired by animal dung.   ???  People are cooking on top of them. A copper coil can be used for heating water or making steam.  The rocket mass stoves exhaust  (chimney) is ran underground & will heat the floor.  The chimney can be routed thru an earthern bench which absorbs heat during the day while the stove is in use & releases it slowly during the night acting as a heatsink offering a more comfortable nights sleep. Throw a sleeping bag on top & float away into dreams of refrigeration, electricity, cable TV & Raptors  Cheap to build. Simple. They can be bought commercially as a table top stove.  A lot of possibilites.

I don't think the average person is prepared for a natural disasters or power outages. How many of you have hand crank weather radios or flashlights? Generators ? Candles ? Wood burners? I could go on... I hope it never happens.  I watched the movie Contagion the other day. That will get you thinking. If you haven't seen it I'd recommend it

pool/hot tub heater. Heated patio. Domestic hot water at a cabin. With a water or glycol PEX system buried around the exhaust you could capture heat & reclaim it thru a  heat exchanger & have forced air heat. Creating steam power with the stove has its risks but the possibilites... Steam driven generator ?  Water super heater.

What worries me is I was thinking that too, lol.  I didn't say anything because I thought it was a bit morbid.  But you know, heck with it.  They died already, I'm gonna roll them and take what I need.  Then give them a Viking funeral.  <- Yeah yeah, that's it.
