We haven't been using our home desktop lately. (I surf enough at work) My wife uses her laptop. SO it sits getting dusty. Sitting for about 2 months I think.... I had been planning to get all my music off there...and pics from the last 6 years and all that to backup. Well...it's gone bye bye :(

Gets to "windows failed" screen....and does the whole "reboot dance" where it tries itself over and over....failing. Only twice when I turned it on did I hear the thing fully kick on...

I guess..does anyone have any advice on how to proceed? Just beat it with a bat? take it out to the garage and give it a BJ (with air pressure sickos)

Am I screwed? Only want it to get that stuff off of it really....

If you just need stuff off of it, just remove the hard drive and use it in an external enclosure or a good PC.

Peelz

oh yeah...derp.

worst case scenario....

Yep, $20 for an external enclosure :)

find out what the specs are on the pc, I know someone who might be interested in it if it's "decent"

Spartan

Yeah if it's just the windows that failed, your data will still be there. I'm guessing it's an IDE style drive?

Krandall

I'd put money on it that it's not sata.

then maybe someday Ill build a good computer again... but it's the xbox for now.

Pretty easy to get a hard drive out....Step one, identify the hard drive. Step two, remove all cables going to it. Step three, slide out or unscrew the hard drive (depends on the case) from the cage. Step four, remove hard drive and drink a beer.

Pretty easy to get a hard drive out....
Step one, go to fridge & get a beer.
Step 2, open can & drink some beer while walking to computer.
Step 3, yell at kids for being too noisy, finish beer to soothe throat from yelling.
Step 4. go to fridge & get another beer
Step 5, sit down at computer desk & look at computer case, realise you need a #1 philips screwdriver to open case
Step 6, finish beer so get another from kitchen while on the way to garage to get a screwdriver
Step 7, yell at kids for making a mess in garage, can't find #1 philips, hope #2 will do, go get another beer
Step 8, go for a piss..........
Step 9, yell at kids for making a mess in bathroom, beer required.
Step 10, go back to computer, sit down, realise you left screwdriver in bathroom.
Step 11, retrieve screwdriver, & try to undo screws that hold caser together
Step 12, 3 out of 4 screws come out, but last screw the head strips out because screwdriver too big, drink beer
Step 13, go back to garage, via kitchen for beer, to get pliers to try & get screw out
Step 14, Have pliers in hand after finding them in back of toy dump truck on front lawn, yell at kids for playing with your tools
Step 15, go for piss on neighbours fence (he's a basterd anyway, how the f**k did he get such a hot wife)
Step 16, back to 'puter, try to undoo final screw, pliers slip & give you a blood blister on base of forefinger, F**K that hurt, get beer to console self
Step 17ish,
Case finally open, cut finger on edge of sheetmetal while pulling all those stupid red & yellow & black & grey wire thingys out, hard drive in there somewhere.
Step something, suck finger to stop blood dripping while going to kitchen for another beer, stand on kids toy with wheels............yell at kids for leaving toys in hallway, while rubbing bruises, & leaving blood on carpet from cut finger
F**K these steps, need another beer
Step ??? leave bloody hand print on fridge while getting another beer, yell at wife cos you have last beer in hand, no more in fridge, sit on couch while opening beer. pick up remote & flick chanels for a couple of minutes, bugger, the game already started. Yellaat kids for ccchanging chaneals & making you miss the game
Fall asleep during 3rd quarter with yor team going good, spill last of beer on carpet
Wake up next day to find your team lost by 30 points, wife angry because you upset the kids, broke a toy, upset the neighbours wife who saw you pissing on the fence, can't believe you gotso much blood everywhere from that silly little scratch, & you still don't know which bit in the case is the hard drive
