OK, I'm a dumbass.  Now that that is out of the way, here's the deal.  I bought a Samsung DVD burner to install in the second bay on my HP.  I didn't check what connections I had open in the PC first.  The burner is SATA and I have no SATA power connectors left oper from my power supply.  I have one SATA plug on the mobo.  Am I hosed?  Is there an adapter to turn IDE power into SATA that is worth a shit?

I feel like a funyun for thinking I could just order any old burner and plug it in with no trouble.  :geo:

If you need a POWER plug there are 4-pin molex to SATA adapters. The bigger strip is data. I'd google it but phone is sucking right now. I've used the molex (what your ide drives and fan use) adapters before and they work fine.

DVD burner, aren't those becoming obsolete? Kinda like a cassette deck. I haven't used my burner since 05-06 maybe.

no I wouldn't get that one, I'd get something similar to what firemann put up...you just need something that plugs inline of one of those bigger white 4 pin plugs to split off the power to SATA. the one you linked plugs into the motherboard looks like

Don't I need to hook the SATA data to the mobo?

Spartan

I am kinda used to using 2 different cables to run power/data on my SATA drives, so I've never seen that connector before...that MAY work now that I look at the big plug. Can't say for sure but worth a shot.

Why bother with hooking things to the motherboard?  Just buy one of these, install the drive in it, and plug it into USB.
