Hello all,

Well im new here and im new to the quad world. I have been thinking about picking up a used Raptor 660 or a yfz 450. I really cant make up my mind what i think i would like more. Just a little back round on me, I have been riding R1 from the time they came out in 98. The type of riding i will be doing will be trails, dunes, no track.. Would like to have the power to yank it a round, wheelies ect... So help me out guys, should i stick with the 660? and why?

Thanks for looking!

I would go with a 700, they are starting to be really cheap nowadays for a decent 07 or so...But it depends on your likes. For trails/dunes the 660 hands down, the 450 is more of a track quad but still decent for trails. I just like the torque of the bigger quads a lot more.

Im not ready to spend "700" kinda money yet. I have found a few 660s and 450s around 2000/2500 range.

I have seen 700s in the 2700 range lately...what area are you in again?

ddonaldson6

Really, wow... Currently ks.

660's not a bad bike by any means in that price range. Stay away from 01's - they had tranny issues, and pre 2007(?) yfz450's had some oiling issues. Both issues have fixes, both of them in the $300-500 range I think too...

How big are you ? The 450 to me is just too small and I feel cramped on one. I'm only 5'10/190. If you have the opportunity to throw a leg over a couple bikes I'd highly recommend it. Both are great rides, but have completely different strengths. 660's got my vote, but I'm a bit biased

700's the way to go if you can find one cheap, but around here it's a $3500-4000 min to get into a 700. But then keep in mind, you're gonna spend easily $1200-2000 in upgrades to make it perform/handle comparably to a 700.

this is a genius post.

no offense Seg, but I would say save an extra 500 and wait for a good deal on a used 700. I still got love for the 660, but 700 is gonna be more reliable, and more forgiving for a new rider.

None taken Brother, I agree 100%

Unfortunately around where I'm at, it's about $1000-1500 difference in price. $500 is a no-brainer, but over a G starts getting to be a big difference

Thanks guys, well looks like I'm picking up a an 05 660 this weekend. I see your point about saving a bit more doe and jumping up to the 700. I really don't think i can pass up the deal that I'm getting. I am 5 10, 195ish. I should stay away from the 450s.

Again thanks for the help guys, next year i will bump up to the 700! i can never keep a bike very long!!!

660's not a bad bike by any means. Sure - it's got it's issues, but nothing that can't be addressed.

Post up some pics when you get her- anything done already to one you're looking at ?

ok so i started talking to a guy i found on craigs about an 05 with some good mods... He let me talk him down to 2400... On the other hand i just got a call from a guy here im my town that has an 08 gytr (?) with a broken sub frame, he told me he would let me have it for 25 cash. Both of these Raptors run great, no leaked, no major damage other then the sub frame.. What are your thoughts guy? Hook a brota up!!

subframe runs ya a couple hundy.

Me...I prefer to run mine a little tweaked  it is a weak spot of the rappy 700. I would look really hard for other damage. Bent frame, fender mounts etc....but that is a seriously good deal if just a subframe and motor is good.

Nice! he told me that it was looped, and i could ride it when i pick it up.. Other then the bent frame and fender mounts any thing else i should look into? Im fired up about getting this bike.

I would do the 700...I've been on a few 660s and I still prefer my 700 to that, and 2500 for a 08 is a great deal
