Low pressure systems from up north are pushing cold air south. The cold air moves in and collides with warm moist air from the Gulf and it get's nasty. All of our recent storms have been out of the north, or north west.

Yep.

You learn a lot about weather systems. I usually call automated weather and get a METAR before I go, and pull weather again at the airport and along a route. Weather has always fascinated me.
