you could try the scan in "safe mode"

restart the computer , tap the "f8" key over and over till a choices menu comes up
select safe mode
and once it starts up, run the scan

.   Thanks for that Krandall. Now I just have to figure out how to log in as an administrator because when I tried to delete it asks for permission and will not delete it. I'm at Bob Evans right now. Ill try again after I get home. May need assistance logging in as an administrator....

what program are using to scan it?

I've used Avast, Malwarebytes, SUPER Anti-Spyware all at seperate times of course. I get the same result, freezing.

Hefe

what about Avast "Boot scan"?
does that make it all the way thru?

you could run Combofix

that is pretty good at getting the stubborn ones out

Krandall

did you research the file having issues hefer? Doens't appear to be virus related.

I wish Hefe, this 64 Bit Vista system DOES NOT allow a Boot-Time Scan with Avast. The 32 bit systems are good to go.

Combo fix is also not compatible with Vista....Only good for XP and 2000 users.

Any luck?

Actually, listen to this and then tell me what you think Krandall. As you know I tried to delete the file manually but Vista will not let me do that due to the administrator issue. So I clicked on the file only (in order to scan just that file)and of course while scanning, it froze up as usual.... So I got the idea to burn "only" the file that my Laptop was freezing on to a disc, then I proceeded to scan the file that was just added to the disc and it scanned with no problems at all citing: "no malicious items affected". What does that tell you? I'm not even close to "P.C. inclined" but to me it seems like it's a hardware issue.....no?

preddy08

I'd vote a hardware issue. Might try a error check or a disc-defrag. Have you tried a system restore?
Just a little 81hp trail bike.

Yeah, me too. I've done multiple "disk-checks" and they've all came back good. I've defragged and system restore was done as well....I have not a clue as what else could be done....
