Downtown Burlington, Ia. This is not even close to how bad it is up north. This is the Mississippi.
The Port in the foreground is where we had our wedding reception. The walkway around it is 4 ft underwater.  but 4ft off the ground.
I think it rained up north again, too.

FYI, the water is 4ft higher today than it was in that picture. Ouch. Should be drier first part of the week, so it should recede. The post office that Dad is in charge of maintenance for is across the street (to the right in pic). They cut power to the whole area, he has been working his a$$ off to keep the place going with generators.

went down to the spot in the pic, and it is pretty bad! Got a 4ft sandbag wall keeping water out of the post office. But, mississippi is not cresting until Wednesday. Yikes! It is at 1993 level right now.

Closed the bridges in burlington and fort madison.  Can't get back and forth to Illinois without driving at least 60 miles.

More rain is forecasted too. We've had some wicked stuff earlier in the week. Sunday night it got bad. 70 mph gusts. Jacked some of my shingles up. Arkansas River is really flowing, and more rain is on the way. Tulsa is releasing water upstream, and we'll feel the effect of that in a couple of days. Nothing like the flooding in Iowa and Illinois, but it will create some problems in the bottoms where corn and wheat are in the fields.

Right across the Miss. from Burlington is Gulfport, Ill. Nastiest town ever. Population 250, 100 of them work in the 5 strip clubs that make up the economic base of the town....10 ft underwater, what are we gonna do? It's the true disaster. :grin_nod:
