There was some early immigration from Australia, but generally those who were not happy with the "quality" of the neighbours.........
BTW, we beat Aussie last week in  a Cricket Test. We are pretty pleased about this, & Aussie has gone into mourning..........

their Cricket team hasn't been doin very well this year. I think their next series is against Sri Lanka on boxing day. Never really payed much attention to Cricket until last year when the Ashes series was going on while we were there. VERY cool

but soccer isn't as boring as you think. Still don't understand how folks who watch baseball or football say it is.... there are NO TIMEOUTS. NO commercials...no 15 minutes of referees deciding if their decision was right....get on with it!
