We are not all equal.  Good software, and more importantly good revisions, are driven by the prospect of monetary gain.  A piece of camel software is torn in 62 different directions because there is neither a common goal, nor a common experience.  Furthermore, your bug is not always as important as my bug and I'd like the unemployed 30 year old virgin living in his mother's basement who's working on my bug to be aware that there is a whole system out there, not just his little corner of code.  But that's unlikely, since he can't seem to understand that his little table of warhammer figurines is not the entire known universe.

There's still a reason why linux/unix is so stable.. just think if microsoft went open source..

Let's back up a step....Linux is based off Unix.  Unix was created by ATT not some linus torvall tool or a "community".  ALL of your open source crap diverges from one commercial piece of software, which ATT created and developed for decades.

I guess I'm not arguing the OS so much as the Apps.. It's nice to have Apps easily developed for an open source system. Especially a free reign style store as well.. Apple's all have to be pre-approved.

Take Firefox for instance.  The browser is open source but fairly well organized.  The plugins however are not, so we see constant compatibility issues, memory leaks, and poor optimization.  Pre-approval for these plugins would likely limit these issues. 

IMO you have a choice to make.  Truman Capote said the problem with living outside the law is that you no longer have its protection.  If you step outside the standards of commercial software (apple's pre-approval) to find more options and more opportunity for customization you also have to deal with the risks to stability those programs can pose.

I tried the Backflip phone in the store and it was very slow reacting...My iphone had a better reaction time, wtf?

Working on trying to get VLC to work from my phone to my PC.

I can get it to get as far as connecting to my pc but then it disconnects me.

The iphone has apps like that too, but I haven't bothered trying it...too slow. I did find a nice heli app that's fun to play with.
