The batman boat was the anti-whaling boat which got rammed by the Japanese Whaling boat.

Its because there are a group of people that are against the Japanese killing whales and constantly harass them and ram into their whaling boats. This is just one of those incidents where the tables turned and the Anti-Whaling boat got owned by the Japanese Whalers.

you are talking about two different boats. The Ady Gil was the damaged boat that sank, and was named after the person who donated it to sea shepherd. The ship Bob Barker bought is a larger more traditional ice breaking ship, and was also named after Bob Barker. The crew of the Bob Barker rescued the crew of the Ady Gil after the incident. wow that japanese boat turned and ran them over on purpose... you can see it in the video shot from the bob barker boat.

I think it was coasting/drifting forward (see wake behind it) and the Japanese could either turn left and hit it anyway (if it was in fact coasting across their path), reversed and hit it or turn right and hit it.  The Batboat didn't place itself in that position by accident.
