A friend has a Kimber .45 and I LIKE it.  Spendy but it's got a great trigger.  Actually the trigger may be a bit light for a self defense situation.  Get scared and jittery with a finger on the trigger and somebody is gonna die.  As the salesman told my friend, "if you shoot somebody with a .45 and they don't go down, shoot 'em again because you missed the first time."

I say go to the range or a shop and see what feels good in your hands and fits you best.

Unrelated, Gumout works great for cleaning your guns.  You can buy a $10 can of gun scrubber or a $3 can of Gumout.

Now that I totally derailed this thread with my off topic posts, let me try to bring it back on topic a little bit.    :(

If you like shooting AR-15s but ammo costs have you bummed, buy a complete 22lr upper.  No, it's not cheap but ammo will eat you alive.  There is a Ceiner drop in bolt conversion for <$200 but skip it and pony up the money for a complete upper.  I picked up a Tactical Solutions upper and it's pretty freakin' sweet.  IMO based on what I've read, Spikes and TacSol are the top two and I found a good deal on the TacSol so that's what I went with.  It all milspec stuff except for the barrel and that is a 22lr barrel turned on a lathe and park'd.  Visually the only way you can tell it's not the real deal is it's missing the gas tube under the handguard and the roll pin that holds the tube to the gas block.  Swap the upper on your AR and plink away to your hearts content.

I believe Model One (or 1) sales has a complete kit minus lower for $480.  Buy your lower locally and do it yourself.  Haven't dealt with them personally so I don't know if the upper is assembled.  I have heard of a problem with their online ordering system.  Hacked or something but people are getting extra charges on their cards for iTunes and stuff.  From what I've read that's only when ordering online, phone sales aren't affected.

Para USA 1911 .45ACP
S&W M&P .40 compact (carry gun)
Ruger KP944 .40
Taurus Raging Bull .454 Casull
Browning Buckmark .22lr pistol
AR-15 CMMG lower/Bushmaster 20" Predator heavy barrel upper - bought the stripped lower and more or less built it myself
Marlin .22 rifle
Stevens 12ga. pump shotty

That's about it at the moment for me.  I'd like to add a Ruger GP100 and a Mossberg 500 Tactical to the collection.

I'd also like to build another upper for my AR, a shorter lighter tactical style zombie killer like this one:

The wifey has a Rossi .38 special snub nose and a Ruger P95 9mm and a Remington 1100 shotty.

Oh, BTW, the plethora quote is pinatas, not guns.  And it's El Guapo from the Three Amigos.

Jefe: I have put many beautiful pinatas in the storeroom, each of them filled with little suprises.
El Guapo: Many pinatas?
Jefe: Oh yes, many!
El Guapo: Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?
Jefe: A what?
El Guapo: A *plethora*.
Jefe: Oh yes, you have a plethora.
El Guapo: Jefe, what is a plethora?
Jefe: Why, El Guapo?
El Guapo: Well, you told me I have a plethora. And I just would like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has *no idea* what it means to have a plethora.
Jefe: Forgive me, El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education. But could it be that once again, you are angry at something else, and are looking to take it out on me?

Peelz

I'll be damned. Nice job russ. Totally could have swore they were talking guns in that scene. Hilarious movie. Need to dig it up and watch it.

Perfect time for yet another fabulous Three Amigos quote.
Jefe: You wanna die with a man's gun. Not a little sissy gun like that.

There she is an all of her glory.  I have some 300gr. XTP hand loads that are loaded HOT.  I don't even shoot them, I just load them up and hand the gun so someone else and try to contain my laughter until after they pull the trigger.  Kafukinboom.

If you shoot off the shelf loads it's not as bad, plus you can shoot .45LC through it too.  It's a pussycat with .45LC rounds and actually fun to shoot.
