hey all,i have a question.on my 03 660 i took off the air box and have my air filter exposed under my seat.i see alot of guys that have done that and was wondering what negative affects will that have besides the obvious of me getting the filter wet.is there anything that i need to do more or should i be ok...thanks in advance

Colorado700R

I did that to my 700.  I've had no issues.  I get better throttle response, and my K&N filter stays cleaner.

I'm assuming you're using some sort of clamp on filter or airbox eliminator, as the OEM filter setup would not allow this.

I'm also assuming you have rejetted the carbs to offset the increase in intake.

If you've done that, just keep it out of the water and you should be in good shape.

yea the water issue is a big no no. my buddy flooded his engine with water going through a small scale water pit. (no air box FCI intake) anyway if you do hit water just change the oil a couple times and you will be good to go.

yea i got my baby a few months ago and she was already fully jetted and had full yoshi exhaust.as for the filter, had after market aluminum flange on.i just basically cut the box from around everything and kept the stock rubber bvoot things that held the original box on.that with the flange is more than enough.havent been able to take it out yet though..

Peelz

I would have rejetted after cutting the box. Might Need a little bigger mains. Possibly pilot. Gonna be lean. Intake mods make a big difference on the 660.

DECEPTiON21

I've run mine on everything from sand to mud without a box and havent had a problem. As long as you dont let it suck up water, you should be golden. I did throw a prefilter on it though. The prefilter just beads any water that hits the filter instead of absorbing it.
