Well my pc laptop is on its last leg.  I need a pc laptop for work related stuff for my wife.  Just wondering who is making a reliable laptop right now.  I know last time I looked into it Dell was making crap, just wanted to see who is making a good product right now.

unemployed and just had a kid.

I don't need a gaming pc so I think I can keep it under 1k.  I've seen some great deals for around 500-700 for a good running pc.

Never heard much about MSI.  Good brand?

Brands such as MSI, ASUS and so on are not that common because they dont do all the advertising that Dell and HP does.

MSI and Asus are GREAT and have been making top of the line computer parts for years. Infact I bet most of the top name brand computers use ASUS and MSI internals and rebadge them as their own.

+1
Asus is all I use. I've also had alot of experience with MSI motherboards and they are great too.

I buy Lenovo Thinkpad T Series notebooks for our sales guys. Those may be a little out of your price range though. I wouldn't hesitate to buy an MSI or Asus notebook. Great value and solid performers.

i really dont care too much the make, but it needs to have an intel dual core, and i always run a min of 4gb ram.  amd's are soo slow for my taste.

P.I.M.P.

I had a HP that I got about four years ago and decided that I needed a new one. So I went to Sam's and asked if they had any demos that may be marked down. I ended up getting a new HP with a 160g drive 15in. monitor with a built in web cam, pair of Bose speakers, HP wireless mouse, Swiss gear back pack, the extra large 12 cell battery, a laptop lock, and a laptop rest for $298. They had a second one that I thought about picking up after I got that smokin deal on that one. I decided to go back for it the next day but found out that it was the one they had marked down to the $298 because it had none of the extras and the battery was missing. The electronics manager had left the night before and I had another manager help me that didn't know the one they sold me was the one they hadn't marked down. Anyhow, the one I got was still supposed to only be $598 but they never tried to get me to pay the difference. The one that I had for four years was also a demo that was supposed to be $1,400. It was their last one so it was marked down to 1,000 so I asked for the manager and told her that I was going out of town and needed it for a work presentation in California that day. I told her I had spent most my money for the trip and wasn't getting any back from the company until I got back and all I had to spend was $800. She went for it! So I'd recommend checking out Sam's demos and asking to talk to the manager if you want a smokin deal. My old one started runnin slow and making noise about 3 months ago so that's why I decided to get a new one and back up my files but it's still kickin today. I guess if you're not lookin for something crazy fast or tons of memory these work great.
