Left hook to the jaw :poke:   You guys be nice this is my thread
It really isn't like that......I have recently been involved with a build that was making less power on curve 2 with pump gas and 12:1 compression. One dyno pull with the curve on setting #2 was enough to pepper the plug. You could not tell by the sound, just the slight power loss. That surely would have ended badly for the customer and the shop. It is not really up for debate why it happened, it is what it is.

thats why we DONT run 12:1 on pump gas... atleast i dont  nor do i recommend it....
gas quality changes so running on the edge requires a little extra caution

curve 2 has the same PEAK timing as STOCK... well only a difference of 1*

11.5:1 will do the exact same thing with seasonal gas changes, different brands, and age. I don't do 11.5:1 due to some fuels seeing more regional restrictions than others. It is gonna be all about the individual build. A 12:1 engine with .045" or less "squish" will be less octane sensitive than an 11.5:1 with more. The peak timing isn't what caused the issue here. It was the increased aggressiveness between 3,500-5,500.

Thanks everyone for the advise and so sorry for hijacking your thread Mike!     :hair:   Basically I want a very reliable pump gasser for trails and the very occasional drag. My elevation is 400' and our highest grade at the pump is 93 octane.

its funny how u know every thing about the 11.5 CP  piston when u havent even seen one.....  must be your magical powers......most states offer higher then 91 from the pump .....there is a reason i own a 700....its to do some testing on....
Just stuff you''ll learn in engine building 101 at the customers expense. I don't know, or care anything at all about the  11.5:1 piston. It's probably more of the same old stuff, with a shiny top. The valve reliefs are still in the wrong place, the domes don't fit the chamber correctly, and the compression height is probably not optimum.
That was always the problem with dealing with you. You were always so busy trying to get peoples money that you could never give any good critical feedback on new product. I asked direct questions, you tell me everything is fine and next thing you know you are saying the opposite. The good thing about me not doing my own testing is that 3rd party testing tends to be seen as more honest. If I design a product and send it to someone else for testing it offers what I feel to be a more honest approach as far as the customer is concerned.

I don't think the lack of a 700 is hurting my design capabilities.

Just so everyone knows what is going on, some of my pistons came from the manufacturer with chrome rings which is not ideal for Nikasil plating. I IMMEDIATELY contacted everyone that had my piston and warned them of the problem. Chrome rings may have never caused a problem, it was just a precaution. I have worked this out with everyone that I sold them to after waiting what was admittedly a long wait since the ring size had to be made by Total Seal for this application.
Of course I could have done what many piston manufacturers have done and sold chrome rings for years that were intended for Nikasil applications. There are still Raptor pistons being sold with chrome rings by some manufacturers, and they don't see a problem at all. Again, a precaution

It's all good

So what is the status of your build? Ready to tear up some tires?

Just waiting for a couple parts, then I can throw the head on and plastic. Hopefully Thursday and riding Friday morning. I have been told I may be near 60ftlbs of torque. That will be fun!!

I will let you know friday night
