So we need help here in good ol' Utard. I need to get the word out about what is going on here and hope ya'll can help. My hopes are that I can get enough publicity out there that it may get back to law makers here and won't pass. I've already sent info to the Howard Stern show, TMZ and various others that may think that this is worthy of making fun of, and possibly getting bigger more powerful people interested. This is fucking stupid!!! The church here tries to run everything and this is just stupid. Please forward this to as many people you can, be it other forums, personal e-mails or better yet any news stations or someone with any connections to mass distribution. These People that own bars are going to have major renovating to do. We don't want to be treated like children. Here is the story. Go read the comments left on KSL.com. I posted the link.

UGH!!! Pleas help!!! Ok, so the idiots here in Utah are trying to pass stupid laws again and I think the world should know. It's the Mormons in this state trying to mix church and state again. Please help get this out so we don't have to be treated like children. Thank you in advance.

Senate panel approves hiding restaurant bartenders
February 27th, 2009 @ 10:18am

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Utah Senate committee has approved a bill that would hide the preparation of alcoholic drinks behind 10-foot-high walls in restaurants and make it illegal to appear drunk.

Sen. John Valentine, R-Orem, says Senate Bill 187 is intended to eliminate anything resembling a bar in restaurants.

His measure also would redefine what it means to be intoxicated in Utah, gutting a Utah Supreme Court ruling that said simply being a drunk is not a crime. Under Valentine's bill, it would be illegal for anyone to look like they are drunk.

The bill passed unanimously on Friday. It will now be debated on the Senate floor.

Wow,  I don't drink but that's pretty weird.

Does anybody suggest they shut down buffets because gluttony is a sin?

Imagine this. They already have to mix drinks behind a 1 or 2 foot piece of glass, and have to walk around the end of the bar to give it to you. It's illegal pass a drink over the top of the glass. Last year they outlawed wine coolers, Sparks, Rockstar21's, flavored beer or anything else that may appeal to younger drinkers. They called them "Alco-pops". They said they wanted to try and cut back how many underage people got booze. Oh, and they kept the FUCKIN real beer!!! The stuff that's advertised with young girls in bikinis. I've never seen any commercials for wine coolers or those others. I think the last time I saw wine cooler commercials was around 20 years ago and it was two old guys sittin around on their front porch sippin B&J. Isn't the whole idea of having the clerk check I.D.s supposed to stop that? I loved Rockstar21's and now they don't even sell them in the State Owned liquor stores. This is why so many are so worried and consider it a real threat. And this is just scratching the surface of some of the stupid drinking laws here in Utard. There is a pretty good amount of Mormon members up at capitol hill here in the land of Zion and they're looking out for their best interest. WTF happened to separation of church and state? Oh, I'm no rump rangin butt pirate either, but they just sent a bunch of money, and encouraged their members to send money to fight against gay marriage in California. Not only are they tryin to run things here but now they're sendin money out of state to try and dictate things? WTF!!!

Flynbyu

I seriously doubt that passes.

I hope you have a good turnout of young people at the polls!

seems pretty stupid, but what would be the argument against it? what would make it not pass?

Just looking at it from the other point of view.

For me it's the appearing drunk part that is a little too far.   You don't actually have to BE drunk to get a ticket, just appear drunk.  I could get arrested for waking up, then staggering outside to check the mail.  [off topic]  Somehow this reminds me of Ron White doing his Drunk in Pu-blic skit.  "I wasn't drunk in public till they threw me out.  Arrest them."

Money from out of staters. We have a huge tourist state. Moab for rock crawling, mountain biking and atv's, Zion and arches national park, skiing and the Sundance film festival just to name a few. Because it is such a outdoorsy type of state it brings in the Outdoor Retailers convention twice every year. We actually have a ton of conventions here because there are so many companies that are based here. Utah has a lot of people here that love starting companies like Nuskin and various others you have probably heard of that bring in huge conventions. It's already pretty hard to get a drink here for people that have never been before. Some of the laws that people already find weird are not being able to have two drinks at your table if you don't have two people. Let's say you were finishing your beer and before you finished it you knew you wanted another, so you've only got a quarter left and you said bring me another beer they won't bring it until they pick up your other. You can't just go have a drink at a restaurant after work with your pals you have to buy some kind of food to go with it to soak up your booze. If you wanted to go out and go to dinner alone and order a pitcher of beer you can't, you have to have someone else with you.  Maybe you have a buddy coming to meet you and you tell them to bring a pitcher they can't. Maybe he calls you and says I'll be there in a second have me a beer waiting when I get there, can't do that either. Oh, and the town I live in has a very heavy Mormon influence, so heavy that the Applebees here they check your I.D. and then have to have a manager come verify it. Someone told me that it was a corporate decision but I have never had it happen anywhere else.  At the bar you have to have another person standing next to you in order to order more than three drinks. Ever buy a round for your buddies? Can't do it here unless they are all standing at the bar. I know it don't sound that bad but have you ever been to a way crowded bar and wait for an hour in line to get a odrink? I usually get as many drinks as possible so I don't have to wait in line again and waist my night away waiting in a line. No free pour here either, everything is metered to 1 and a half oz. So, when you do finish your weak ass drink you have to go wait in line again. I believe there is something to how many bartenders you can have behind the bar too. I think it's to create that line of people trying to cut back on how often you can get a weak drink. That way it cuts back how many are leaving the bar drunk. Don't get me wrong I "get it" just don't think the church should have a say in it. They actually have meetings with the church to listen to their opinions when making these decisions. There's another law trying to be passed also that would require you to swipe your DL or another form of I.D. into a data base that would track your intake for 48 hours. So if you ever got pulled over they could pull how much you'd consumed in the last 48. I think we're all adults here and can make our own decisions. If you care to know what's going on here or just want a laugh just go to KSL.com and they will have plenty of dumb shit to look at such as this. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=5717913  or this  http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=5715111     Don't get me wrong, I love the state, there is a ton to do and they just made it legal to drive atvs on roads here, just most the people here suck. Notice I said most  please don't start baggin on me if you're from Utah.

Actually the cost of remodeling your place of businesss to accomodate this is an argument.  As a patron, i would want to be able to see my drink being mixed to make sure i got the top shelve i just paid for is another.
