Heard Microsoft announced Windows 7 will be a single release no "special editions" like vista.

Doesn't get worse than M.E. though...

I know a lot of people that have had good luck w/ Vista. There was driver issues when it came out.. they got that fixed. I know Going from 2000 to XP they had their fair share of issues as well.. Hopefully since Windows 7 isnt a HUGE change from Vista. they have their ducks in a row.

You heard wrong, there will be just as many versions, just different names.

Vista was blown way out of proportion by sticks in the mud that couldn't deal with real change.  Sure it was buggy, so was every other Windows release at launch.  After SP1 it was great, same with XP.

ME was just a collection of bugs slapped onto 98SE in a vain attempt to prolong it's life.  I agree it still takes the cake on bad OS releases. 

Win7 uses vista drivers, the vast majority of devices won't even need new drivers. 

Win2k was built as a replacement for NT, it wasn't designed for home use.  XP was built on the Win2k kernel, basically a home version of an OS that did very well (and also had 4 service packs).
