Vista didn't have a new layout, it skinned XP and moved shit around a little.  Win 7 was an improvement on that.  Metro is NOT a mouse GUI, it's for tablets....you know those things that Microsoft tried to sell 10 years ago that no one wanted.

Metro is going to be a disaster for the desktop world.  No one cares about the 1.5% of tablet users that run Windows.

you dont have to use the metro part of the GUI, it has standard desktop capabilities

Of this I am aware.  However there are some issues still with translating controls and settings between the two interfaces.
