With K&N air filters, like the one that comes with the MOD Quad kit, once it gets dirty cause you wash it out and re-oil it, or do you have to buy a new filter?

Colorado700R

you wash it and oil it, and it's ready to go

BoisBlancBoy

Do you have to use anything special to wash them with or will gas work just fine?

Colorado700R

Soap and water works for me.  I don't like gas becuase it can deteriate the filter material.

I beleve K&N sells some special stuff you can use.

BoisBlancBoy

Yeah I just found a the Recharge kit they sell.

Hey guys check this out and see what you think:

K&N Air Filters, CT recommends K&N air filters always be used in conjunction with an Outerwear or K&N pre-charger. K&N air filters are best for sand only. Unfortunately K&N's will pass fine dust particles, so we don't recommend them for desert racing or all conditions. K&N air filters have very good airflow characteristics and will keep out the big stuff just fine.

I found this at this site:     http://www.ctracing.com/air.htm

Just happened to stumble across it.  After reading that, kinda makes you wonder whats passing through your filter in any dusty conditions!

Colorado700R

Good find, I run outwears, and haven't noticed any particles, but that don't mean there not getting through.

I always run an outerwear on my filter. Just peace of mind and its not doing any harm at all.

BoisBlancBoy

Yeah I have an outter wear on and after reading that I am for sure not going to take it off.  If I remember right, the package that the outer wear came in said to always have it on in dusty conditions.

I dont see why you woud take it off anyway. Your not losing any performance with it.

Yea out wears are great. II suggest using them.

I run K&N with an outerwears and i ride all conditions, sometimes very dusty, and i never noticed a problem.

When you want to clean it just get the recharge kit, thats what i do, or if your tight on money u can just use soap and water.

who else but rk

k&n and outwears just go hand in hand

and use the k7n recharge kit, ive seen not so good results of people using "other" methods

+1

I just use dishwashing liquid and air dry. Re-oil, wiat 20 minutes, touch up any white areas on the filter. Re-install.

I just cleaned out Tahoe's filter last Thursday.
