This is a tricky subject.

Personally, I have issues with both sides of the idea.

Gay marriage is widely accepted in Europe, and is legal there which suprises me that it is not legal here.

We recently had on our state ballot should unmarried couples and same sex couples be able to adopt, and I voted yes because it included unmarried couples in the measure. The vote was passed anyway in this state. Marriage is defined as a man and a woman, however I do feel gay people should have basic rights just like myself, regardless of orientation, religion, etc..

~Brian

I could be wrong so I'll have to check but I thought they had civil unions.  And I'm all for that.

Agreed.

I don't think we should go out of our way to roll out the red carpet, but they should be afforded the same basic rights any human being has. I don't have a problem with civil unions, but as far as filing jointly on a tax return, etc. for special breaks, no.

~Brian

Why shouldn't they be able to file jointly on a tax return.  It sounds like people are mainly opposed for religious reasons which is seperate from a state issue.  See what I did there?

Flynbyu

Filing jointly on a tax return is for married couples.

I'll say this and shut up, if gay marriage was legalized, I would recognize it's the law, much like the right to abortion is the law.

One of the best friends from high school is openly gay. We agree on several issues, except the type of porn we watch of course. He even thinks gay marriage shouldn't be allowed. He's an insider (obviously) that says there's not many gays that are monogamous, and having an outlet for them to join in marriage would lead in a high percentage of divorce.

Do you mean a higher percentage of divorce than it currently is?  This can be argued ad nauseum.  I just don't think it's right to discriminate against someone because we think what they do is yucky.  I'd be willing to bet that the gay couples that have been together forever are getting just as much sex as I am.   :(

I feel we should give them civil unions and have the tax breaks.  That way they have what they want and we do not have to change marriage.  Everyone is happy.

In this state, it's not near as big of an issue as it is out west. They are just trying to curb the idea before it gets started.

Sister f*cking has always been legal. It's only illegal if you don't get to your sister first.
