Quick Crank Bearing Question.

Is there any standard rating of time before you should replace crank bearings or any signs without tearing the motor apart to know when they are getting bad?

Throw a KDS 14:1 piston in there and you will find out if they are going to fail or not  :rofl:

If you ride a lot of wheelies, it starves the crank bearings of oil and will cause them to fail a lot quicker.  Otherwise probably several hundred hours.  Depends on riding style really.....

Ride it til she goes.  Thats what I am doing anyway.  Mine is an 06 and I race quite a bit and wheelie sometimes but not very long distances.  Not sure on how many hours are on the motor.  Many.

Fair enough. i was just wondering. I know theres the general maintenance. But wasn't sure if anyone has yet to have to replace crank bearings.. Or I could just get another crank.. worries would stop. :lol:

i just put a new crank in my 06 700...like mentioned above i have hundreds of hard hours on it

Did the OEM crank need to be replaced

yeah i bought the whole crank assembly. it was about 300 bucks. well worth it, i just put in another oem one because this one has lasted three years

Might I ask, What happend? Bearing lockup? Or just figured it was time? ???

yep thats exactly what happened. rod bearing came apart...for some reason rod bearings dont like me..my 05 yfz locked up too...it might have something to do w/ over revving all the time. i ride these things like i stole them...well you kind of have to when you race i just put 1500 dollars into my raptor this month ill throw up some pics when its all done the end of this week

also krandall from what i see in your sig is a broken swing arm. how did you pull that one off

I have duned my 07 since I bought it in Nov 06 and rode it on the average of twice, hard in the sand untill now.  I stroked it with an 8 mil crank a year ago, dyno'd it 3 times (with about 150 pulls) and raced the hell out of it constantly and reving it up to the rev limiter a lot.  This motor is holding together great so far, knock on wood.  I do change my after every other ride and use amsoil synthetic so i'm sure that helps too.
