My Laptop broke! It was a 3 year old Toshiba that I got for 350$. I think I got a while out of it but yesterday the fan stopped working so it would over heat. Now it doesn't turn on at all. The computer guy at my moms just said at the minimum if its just replacing the fan it would be 80$. This to me is already not worth it because its only a cheap laptop, and was nearing its end anyway. Currently I am using my sisters old desktop hooked up to my tv. Its not bad or anything, I am just not use to it.  :D So what do you guys think I should do? I am thinking of using it for a while, until I get a job and then eventually buy a 500$ or so laptop, but that is a lot of money and some of you may now I am trying to save up for a car in a year. So what ever poll wins I will prob do that. I think I might just keep the desktop till it dies, because its decent, it will just take some time getting use to it and everything.

Save your money till you can afford a new laptop.  I've had good luck with Dells, although my sound just fried on it , but it's 4 years old now and served me well.

Well I have enough to buy a new one, but about 700 or so for a good laptop. I was already to go out and buy one yesterday but now I am not so sure. Thats a lot of mine for me just to be dropping it on a laptop.

My vote was get a cheap laptop.. but then I'm rethinking.. it really depends on what you plan on doing.. if you're looking for basic word processing and surfing, getting a cheap one now won't hurt you in the future. but if you're looking for something more. it may be worth to hold out.

Use the desktop until it dies unless you're just dying to have a new laptop.

I had a dell but it only lasted a week!!  I am not sure if it was all those porn sites or the forums!!! hahaha.  I went and got myself a Mac Book Pro and I will never go back.  It kicks ass for photo and video editing!!  I just have to get a camcorder to work with the video program.  I am heading to the Hinton dunes this weekend so I may have to get one and mess with it and post something up for you guys from the great not white anymore north!! EH??
To many mods to list!!  My sparkplug is still stock though

Yea so Guess what guys? My sister's desktop broke. Nothing shows up on the screen anymore. So currently I am on my mom and dad's computer that has not sound!! Its so annoying.

If anyone has laptops for under 600$ Please post them. I told my mom I wanted a mac book she said she is thinking about, but to still look for other brands.

I found these so far.

Question for someone good with computers.

I will be using my computer for the following:

-Web Browsing
-Movie Watching
-CD/DVD Burning
-Music Listening
-Picture Viewing
-Movie Making (With windows movie Maker)
-Aim
-No hardcore gaming or anything

Now What Processors should the computers I am looking at have? I had a celeron m and it did all that but lagged when watching movies. I know I can get by on a celeron, but I don't want to just get back.

Processors:

Intel:
Core 2 Duo  Are these two the same?
Core Duo
Other?

Amd:
No clue what I should be looking for.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Also how is this laptop?
