I'm dicking around with the idea of adding some lights to my quads so they can see better at night. What do I need to know?

I'm guessing I can run two 35 watt lights in addition to the factory lights. Yes? No?

Do I need to buy lights that are ATV specific or can any 12 volt light work?

Here's a decent read. It really boils down to.. how do you want the lights mounted.. Bar mount or in the stock position. Do you want to use the Stock assembly or a whole new one?

I"m not really sure if I want to use the stock assembly or another one. Swapping out the stock bulb with a Sylvania one from an auto parts store is intriguing - and definitely within my price range.

Even if I wasn't a cheap bastard I would not be willing to spend $400 on auxiliary lighting on the quad. That's just too much money. For that much I could buy off road lights for my pickup.

I hear ya there. Soltek Lighting has a plug n' play kit available on their site: I'm sure he'd do a discount:

Otherwise, there's some HID options available on ebay for around 100. I can get links if interested.

Links not necessary. But I appreciate it.
I'm really looking to stay within the $100 range, which seems to keep me at stock lighting levels. But I might have found a way to use stock lighting (35watts) that will improve things. I found a helmet light that looks like it will do the trick:  http://www.helmetlight.com/

I read 2 threads on RF about HID's from Duane & Shawnz, they really like their $100 HID's from Ebay.  They also sorted out some  issues & showed these kits to be an affordable option with tons of light in return.  ;)
