I'm looking for one to start building to put into my SS. I want to continue driving the truck while I'm building the motor. It's a dog right now, but is still fun to drive.

i would watch ebay, i have bought a ton of newer bbc stuff for dirt cheap, rv people seem to be souping up thier motor homes, and blow out engines at ridiculous prices.  other than that i have a 454 and a 427 truck block.  but freight from canada will kill you

It sure would. I've been keeping an I out on Ebay, but will look into the RV thing. Thanks

I will keep an eye out as I am now a big block owner too. Always been a small block fan and now chartering new territory.

Off topic question.
Is there a difference between the 350 and 454 bell housings, if I wanted to swap transmissions?

Nope, they are all the same, GERD BLESS GENERAL MOTORS  :grin_nod:

I went to rebuild my TH400 in my 454ss and got into it and realized it really was not a TH400. It actually is a TH375 that they only built from 72 to 76. The bell housing is the same, but the tail shaft housing is 9inches long and the 400 is 4 inches long. After a ton of reading to figure out what I had it ended up that GM actually put these in they 454SS in 90 and 91. Then switched to the 4L80E for the 92 and 93 SS. The other difference is the output shaft is tapered for the 9 inch tail shaft housing which is the same as the TH350. Now thats good old GM for you. Pretty much the same thing as a TH400 but different output shaft and tail housing. It has the same insides though.

Thanks, that is good news.   The truck I have have a TH400 with a NP205 tranfer case. I had already bought a TH400 with a NP208 for a future build. I guess I will keep both just in case the current setup blows!

That kicks a$$!  I am still trying to fine tune the edelbrock on my 454. It is slow to open the secondaries, and kinda backfires a little when open. Need to check timing too.

I'm going to make my 454 a 489. I'm not going to leave it fuel injected though. I thought about running the Edelbrock fuel rails, but its not cost effective at 2499.00 and I really don't want to mess with the TBI. I will be running a Holley 950 CFM when this is all over. I really don't know if I'm going to run a Scat or Eagle rotating assembly yet.

You will need a sticker:

SHUT UP,
AND
HOLD ON!

That is going to awesome!

there are plenty of cheap fuel injection systems on ebay that work, the mega squirt system and sds.com are a couple that come to mind.  i have a sds system and it is awesome, but if i were to do another, it would be a mega squirt, they are way cheaper.

What kind of HP can you get out of them?

i dyno'd a bunch of different carbs on stock and modified small blocks, the stock quadra-jet consistently made 5 hp MORE than an edelbrock, and demon normal discharge carbs were about 25 over stock, and the annular discharge carbs were about 50 hp over stock, and holle came in as the worst!!!!!!
