S.Wales,NEW ZEALAND-A giant porker got to be too much for Caroline Hayes, 63, making her a prisoner in her own home by refusing to let her leave her farm house until she fed him. "When I ran out of food he wouldn't let me outside to use the loo," said Ms. Hayes, whose farm doesn't have indoor plumbing. The giant pig would keep her inside for days on end until friends came by with more bananas, the hungry porker's favourite food. Wildlife officials captured the huge pig which was gladly accepted by a piggery who intends to use him as their lead stud.

Plano, TEXAS- Disgruntled parents are taking action against the Happy Trails Riding Camp for putting their children in contact with hostile animals. "Will the nightmares ever cease," asked Gretchen Sustachek, in reference to her son's experience at the popular day camp. The resulting trouble sleeping through the night for the last three months has left young Bobby Sustachek listless and unfocused in school. Camp owners have noticed increasing hostile behavior toward the kids by their trail animals but insist that is all part of learning to ride.

LOS ANGELES, CA - The FOX News Network has admitted they were unable to confirm the veracity of a recent story on the existence of a new species of animal - a human-deer hybrid. FOX had broadcast a story claiming a man from Superior, WI, has had physical relations with several deer and the result was the birth of a cross species hybrid. FOX now denies that part of the story and apologizes for any confusion!

Of course the last few stories are somewhat true, they have been slightly twisted.

Angry Teacher Rips Student's Cheek Off
On December 18th, 2008, a 10 year-old 5th grader named Chao Qun Zheng went to his elementary school in HeNan, China.

When his teacher, Guo, found out that young Zheng had not completed his homework, she flipped out.

"She was very angry at the time," he said. "She ripped and twisted my cheeks with both her hands and then she lifted me off the ground."

The teacher held the boy up until one of his cheeks actually ripped off and the boy was bleeding profusely.

Without hesitation the teacher reached down and picked up Zheng's cheek skin, put it on his face, and instructed the boy go home immediately.

When the parents saw Zheng, they immediately took him to the hospital where it took 52 stitches to have his cheek sewn back on.

Zheng's father has reported the case to the police and is expected to press for damages.

Water fountain shows have always been a big draw for people. Whether you are taking a moment to enjoy the world famous Bellagio fountain show or the smaller, but still amazing, Tianyi Sqaure show in Ningbo, China, you are likely to enjoy the overall experience.

Yang, a 19 year-old college student, had a very different experience.

In August of 2007, Yang was at a local center square in the Henan Province of China. She went with some friends to enjoy the day and see the musical water fountain show.

Yang and her friends were playing in the water fountain area and enjoying the light burst of water that would spray them. All of a sudden, while Yang was struck by a powerful burst of water that threw her into the air.

After the fall, Yang experienced extreme stomach pains and was bleeding badly. She was immediately taken to the hospital to undergo medical care.

The doctor said that the fountains water pressure had torn her vagina and damaged her intestines.

During the following 7 months, Yang received 3 surgeries to repair the damage, which left her some pretty bad scars.

Yang is suing the owners of the fountain for around $24,500 in damages.

ST. CLOUD, Minn.  —  A St. Cloud woman is in jail after police say she tried to set her boyfriend on fire using a lighter and air freshener.

Investigators say the 49-year-old woman is accused of pouring fingernail polish remover on the victim and the blanket covering him, then trying to light him on fire.

The victim was able to take the air freshener from the woman. Police say she then hit him on the back of the head and bit him several times. As the man tried to call police, the woman allegedly ripped the phone cord out of the wall.

The woman is in the Stearns County Jail on suspicion of domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call.

LOS ANGELES  —  Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV's "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday morning at his home, a Los Angeles city councilman said. He was 88.

Montalban's death was announced at a meeting of the city council by president Eric Garcetti, who represents the district where the actor lived. Garcetti did not give a cause of death.

"The Ricardo Montalban Theatre in my Council District — where the next generations of performers participate in plays, musicals, and concerts — stands as a fitting tribute to this consummate performer," Garcetti said later in a written statement.

Montalban had been a star in Mexican movies when MGM brought him to Hollywood in 1946. He was cast in the leading role opposite Esther Williams in "Fiesta." He also starred with the swimming beauty in "On an Island with You" and "Neptune's Daughter."

A later generation knew Montalban as the faintly mysterious, white-suited Mr. Roarke, who presided over an island resort where visitors were able to fulfill their lifelong dreams. "Fantasy Island" received high ratings for most of its 1978-1984 span on ABC television and still appears in reruns.

In a 1978 interview, he analyzed the series' success:

"What is appealing is the idea of attaining the unattainable and learning from it. Once you obtain a fantasy it becomes a reality, and that reality is not as exciting as your fantasy. Through the fantasies you learn to appreciate your own realities."

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates  —  The developer of a skyscraper planned to be the world's tallest said Wednesday it is halting work on the project for a year as the Middle East's business and entertainment capital grapples with the financial crisis.

State-owned builder Nakheel's decision to shelve the landmark development — which it unveiled only in October — came as a leading credit rating firm warned that falling real estate prices will likely hurt banks in Dubai and elsewhere in the United Arab Emirates.

Home values in the emirate tumbled 8 percent in the last three months from the previous quarter, a report Tuesday said, marking what analysts say is the first such decline in years.

The halted skyscraper was planned to soar the length of more than 10 American football fields, and analysts had said its unveiling late last year showed a lot of confidence amid the souring global economy.

In response to questions, state-owned Nakheel said in a brief statement that "further work" on its building's foundations "will commence in 12 months." The developer did not say how much work, if any, has already been completed.

"This is part of our readjustment of our immediate business plans to better reflect the current market trends and match supply with demand," the company said.

The skyscraper — billed as nearly two-thirds of a mile tall or more, or the height of more than three of New York's Chrysler Buildings stacked end to end — was designed to top a Dubai rival's nearly complete tower that already is the world's highest.

Nakheel's chief competitor, Emaar Properties, has kept the final height of the silvery steel-and-glass Burj Dubai, or Dubai Tower in Arabic, a closely guarded secret. The company said late last month the building, which is still under construction, had reached a height of 2,559 feet and has more than 160 stories.

The final height of Nakheel's proposed tower is likewise a secret, as is the price tag.

As part of government-run conglomerate Dubai World, Nakheel has played a major role in creating modern-day Dubai, a city that has blossomed from a tiny Persian Gulf fishing and pearling village into a major business and tourism hub in a matter of decades.

Nakheel is best known for Dubai's growing archipelago of man-made islands. The new tower would be located in the rapidly growing "New Dubai" section between two of the islands.

Wednesday's disclosure is only the latest setback for the company. The developer last month cut 15 percent of its staff and said it was scaling back work on some of its ambitious island-building projects. It also delayed a much-publicized luxury hotel being built with Donald Trump.

A number of other developers have also scrambled to cope with the swift change in fortunes. Several real estate and construction companies have been laying off staff, and a new government-backed developer that unveiled a $95 billion project around the same time of the Nakheel Harbor launch recently said it was reviewing its plans now that "investor demands have changed."

Meanwhile on Wednesday, credit rating firm Moody's Investors Service said falling real estate prices means the outlook is negative for banks in Dubai and elsewhere in the United Arab Emirates.

The firm cited concern about loans given to "opportunistic" property developers in light of falling real estate prices. Other worrying signs include tighter liquidity, falling equity values, and the steep drop in oil prices, Moody's said.

US Airways jet crashes in Hudson River

NEW YORK - A US Airways plane crashed into the frigid Hudson River on Thursday afternoon after striking birds that disabled two engines, sending 150 on board scrambling onto rescue boats, authorities say. No deaths or serious injuries were immediately reported.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown said the US Airways Flight 1549 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport enroute to Charlotte, N.C., when the crash occurred in the river near 48th Street in midtown Manhattan.

Brown said the plane, an Airbus 320, appeared to have hit one or more birds.
