Title: Yet another tear down pic thread
Post by: preddy08 on January 01, 2010, 01:54:40 PM
Started another tear down for the winter and thought I'd share some pics. I have'nt cleaned anything up for the pics, so this is how it looked after a season of riding. I was quite suprised at how clean everything looked. This was my second season on this motor.

I was wondering about some of the tolerances. My cylinder was sleeved by Bo and has alot of hours on it. I'm debaiting weather or not to take it out to a 105.5 or not. I would like to stay a 105 with this same piston, but it was starting to burn alot of oil (single ring piston).

So here's what I got.

Top of cylinder - front to back 105.02mm

Top of cylinder - side to side 104.83mm

Piston measured from top, side to side 104.32mm

Piston measured from top, Front to back 104.25mm

Piston measured in middle of skirt, 104.85mm

To me this doesn't sound to bad, so what do ya think?

I would take it to 105.5, if ya want to stay 105 I would take this one on out and it be fresh with a piston and sell the combo(cylinder and piston) then sleeve another cylinder and reuse that piston(since its such great shape). I can rehone it for ya but it wont take the egg shape out of it enough and keep the piston to wall in check were it needs to be.

Possible to take the sleeve out and put a new one in, or just not cost effective?

CUSTOM 14:1 105.5 pistons are in the works and be here shortly

the galling on the wrist pin is all too common, ive honed a few rods to open up the clearances  a hair

I've talked with RE and they have some in the works too. Should be here in the next two weeks or so.

I have both 105 and 105.5 14:1s on the shelf.

if you are going to run stock rod and don't want it to gall the wristpin you need to have the pin coated.
The galling is typical steel on steel
