Mine just took a shit and I've taken great care to never bump it or drop it. The best way I can describe what's happening is to imagine what the negative image for a particular photograph looks like. Well mine is flipping between working normal and the flickering of this "negative" image. Now it just started showing snowy lines on the screen but sound still works perfect.
Thing is I'm having trouble finding the receipt and I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to get it fixed without having to pay? Anyone have the answer?
All i can say is sorry man. I have yet to feel your pain Good luck. I think its a 100 bucks with out the recept. My buddies has shit the bed twice.
1-800-4-myxbox, call them and tell them what happened, i broke mine 6 times now and it hasnt cost me anything at all.

Thanks, I'm gonna give it a shot....
well it froze on 2 seperate occasions, and wouldnt work, 2 times it scratched the hell out of my games, sent it back then too, and twice i got the red rings, so 2+2+2=6 times now.
I would tell em' they are shiping a brand new one a.s.a.p!!
Update:
Freakin warranty only lasts a year (and mines expired)for graphical errors which mine has. There's 2 options to go about repairing your console and here they are
1.) I'll have to pay 99.99 (online) to get it fixed <----------I'm going this route obviously
Or
2.) 219.00 (over the phone) to get it fixed....
There's a 2-3 week turn-around time for either option
I found out that both of the above options RENEWS your 1 year warranty as well (That's the least they could do.)
"The Red ring of Death" repair is covered for free......
Lessons learned: Should've kept my alligience with Sony and got the PS3
wow thats shitty.... they always fixed mine for free, but then again mine started breaking shortly after i got it and i think they extended the warranty every time it takes a dookey.
Really?? Thats a big price difference between the internet and the phone. Wow.
Have you tried a new HDMI cord or whatever you are using? Or sometimes if i unplug mine from the tv and plug it back in it works again.

I've unplugged the component cables.....My HD t.v. isn't HDMI compatible. I've tried disconnecting everything and reconnecting but nothing helps.
Damn that sucks :'(
Nice sig Shookie!
Now I got me one!
I would check locally. I bought one w/ red ring o' death.
I found a person who fixes them for $40. BAM works like a beauty.
Good deal. When you get the "rings of death" Is it caused by the sodder inside melting? Just what I have heard.

Yea.. The way they have the heatsink on the GPU is crap.. so when it starts getting hot, it actually flexes AWAY From the board.
I make sure mine is vented really well. Dont laugh but I was thinking of puting a small fan in the rear of the entertament system for added air flow. Cuz I have heard that putting the intercoolers on the back will actualy cause the x box to run hotter because it is doing more work than its worth.
I cant find the site.. but there was a statistic.. one in 5 xboxes will get the RROD no matter what.
and people keep buying it.
Coworker just bought one, had it maybe a month....already f**ked. Brother just bought one. Think he bought a cooling fan though.
I bought mine as a refurbished unit from TigerDirect and it lasted about 80 days (90 day warranty on the refurb units) before the RROD. Free replacement, no problems.
I would try new cables. I thought mine went out but it was just the cable.
Damn, I keep seeing these threads about xbox's breaking. Why the hell are you people still buying them?
This is the fix that worked for mine.

your welcome
and that sucks, my elite is still going.
My Elite still works with no problems (2years old). Then maybe 4 months ago I got one at a yard sale that was a step up from the core 360 for $10. I bought it and it works fine. You could tell the Microsoft 360 Tech that you do have the RROD and see what happens. 50/50 chance.

I bought one of those too. Hit Microsoft's website and they extended the warranty to 3 years and fixed it for free
haha just got a new one today, now i have one at my moms and dads, hopefully this one wont get broken
Rather than pay 100.00 dollars and wait 4-6 weeks I decided to do a do-it-yourself fix via these guys-----> http://xbox360redlightfix.com/ (http://xbox360redlightfix.com/) I've yet to try it out to see if it worked or not but I'll keep everyone updated as to how it goes. This was simple to do and will be a great bargain IF it fixes the problem I had? Stay tuned.....
Played it for like an hour and so far so good. I'll keep this thread updated as time passes by...
was the method used putting screws into the heatsink vs. the cheapo clips it had?

Correct, the kit also came with nylon and metal washers along with cleaning solution for the CPU/GPU and a tube of thermal paste to re-apply after the cleaning is finished.
UPDATE:
Here it is a week after the do-it-yourself mod and probably 6 hrs playing time and it's starting to take a crap again. So, I figured I'd try and save someone the time/effort/money on buying this kit and doing it yourself.....IMO save your money and wrap the beeyatch up in saran wrap and let her "cook" in order to get the RROD. Then, get it fixed for free.
There's a guy about 20 mins away from my apt that I brought mine to (note: bought w/ RROD) he fixed it. I'm yet to have issues. Pretty sure he used the same method you did..
hmmm maybe check craigs list that's where I found this guy.

Funny! Yep, you should have stuck with Sony.
i have a ps3 and X box elite. my PS3 actually stop playin disk after a year. i think they are both going to have problems either way and either one we buy were getting fuc*ed in the ass.
at least i have both is if one brakes down i still have the other to use haha
I also have both consoles and the PS3 has been a great dust collector in my room  I used to be a playstation fan boy but the online play for the 360 is just so much nicer  When it comes to online play the #60 has no competition ;)
