This is Paul's first race, I think I was more confused than he was...

Here is the link to the Albany website with dates on it   http://www.albanymx.com/  we should meet up there and do some racing!

LOL funny you say that. I took my old '92 cbr 600 to the track and on the first time down the track I got a PERFECT REACTION. Talk about beginners luck! I have'nt even come close since.

That was a fun 1st trip to Albany for sure. Next race is Sep 13th and 14th. Time trials start at 8am. $10.00 gate fee, $25.00 for Sport Class and $40.00 for Pro Class.

Paul built that wheelie bar himself and it turned out great  He was running 14 paddle extreme's and couldn't hook-up. It take's alot of paddle and bigger rollout to get these built Raptor's to hook-up. We're looking at Ripper's and staggered extreme's(74-79 rollout) to get these bike's to launch right. I think with the right gearing and tire, these bike's can get below 4.5sec.

There weren't many 4-stroke's there....maybe less then 5.

I'll be there Sep 14th....struted and ready to make Paul look slow ;)

Congrats to Paul for taking 3rd in the Pro Class

We saw a 3.6 pass by a girl from Oregon....this being my 1st time to a 300ft track......getting to watch that pass was awesome. 3.6 is HAULING AZZ....it's crazy how hard it leave's the line. You couldn't pay me to ride that banshee....I think it was on the wheelie bar the whole way down the track

Sounds good....there was another 700 there(stock stroke,Racer's edge head, no strut's)...I think he was running around 5.6sec....he was a big fella(probably over 250lbs).

That's the great thing about 300ft bracket racing....ANYBODY can win....you just have to be consistant and good on the tree.

Here is the tire I run for dirt drags.  I really like them so far but I only went down the track once and wiped out but it was only a 160 ft track.  It's weird but watch a banshee and a 4 stroke that runs the same times and banshee looks faster.  This past weekend in sand drags a banshee went 3.5 @ 98 mph in 300 ft.  There was a drag frame ds spraying ran 3.85 @ 300 ft.

Looks like fun to me!  Sandfest was full of a bunch of crashes this year.  I grew up on the coast and one of my buddies who still lives there caught a tree in the face that was laying across a tree run that he has done a bunch of times, caught him by surprise, and he ended up getting taken out on a stretcher.  ( he returned the next night )

That's a tuff question. IMO, Pauls RocketFactory build and My Kenz build should be in the 4.5-4.6 range when we get them dialed in.....I hope

Hey guys
I think Paul would have done just as good times without the bar,in fact the bar might have worked against him a little, jmo
If he would have had time to make adjustments then maybe, but theres alot ot trial and error involved.
I believe after 3 races he will be closer to getting a bar to work correctly for him.

Yup, we had no idea what to expect. We'll get the gearing, tire and swing-arm length thing down....then you'll see some video of these 700's launching on the wheelie bar

This bar Wes a prototype. I didn't get to use it much but I think I will lighten it up with the Chromolly. My set up was way off. I will run it again in a couple weeks with a shorter swinger possibly. I had 15/38 gearing 14 paddle extremes and struts all the way around.  Mikes bar will be all Chromoly and as thin as I can make it with out bending.  My Prediction is Mike will run 4.6-4.7 with the set up he has. Typically Kenz motors are not as fas as the RF builds but he will use my experience to his advantage. I have heard Mike and Grant have been studying my tapes late at night. At least I think that's what they were doing.

You might try running a 8x10 rim on the rear if your not already.  It will lower your RO but give you a wider path to grab traction.
Title: Re: Albany Oregon *Powdercoater With His Wheelie Bar*
Post by: digitalhearing on September 01, 2008, 11:39:45 PM
JW, I like the idea of the wider tire, isn't there an 8x10 with a big R.out?  Paul, yes we have been studying the tapes, and for the life of us, we can't figure out the RF dyno #'s (very high) can leave you sitting (like a turd) on the take off.   :P  When the Kenz bikes get to Albany, I've got a hunch that you will be smell'n burnt wheelie bar bearing grease, and watch'n some serious hookup.

I will come over for FSA race 5 Gene, I am going to run the same class as last year. 650+ modified. She will be on alky again with a better rear shock and maybe a 108 bore.

As for I H8 my vote goes to Bruce

I don't believe the 108 is going to be a "real" option for the 660...IDK, just a "feeling"

trust me it's not Shotcaller.....  I don't think I can run in the sumo class but the modified class is where I'll be.   Frank the tank, by next year 812 is going to be small.... I know your going to go bigger..... She ran like a bat out of hell at Boxcar....

Frank, if thats the case they might need a class of their own to run in,say 860 up.

Man just watched the vids and I always thought 4-stroke guys were a little slow and must have rode the short bus, but I mean come on the starter had to walk up and tell him to stage!  If i was that banshee guy I would of went over there and knocked him off his bike for making me sit there and having to keep clearing out my bike :box:  :thud:.  I can see getting help to stage if needed.................I do it for my son WHO IS 6 YEARS OLD .

Oh, by the way good job Paul.  That last pass it looked as if you scooted back farther and it slightly pulled the front end.  I think the bar is still to low from watching the vids and a 74ro 14ex on a 10" wide rim maybe the ticket.  You need to drop another tenth off the 60' and then you'll feel how hard it launches trust me.

Oh, and Frank if I didn't tell yuh the 108 has to have an oil passage altered to fit a 108 but it can be done.  If there is a will theres a way $$$$, but what do I know.  I do know were you can get a pretty cylinder to try it out though, lol.

Hey Geoff, we don't have nearly the seat time as you do, remember this is the first race season in fact the first time out to the track for Paul.  The first few times out you had some fantastic success, but that really isn't the norm.  Easy on the new guy, He DID have about the best reaction time of the day, once he got the hang of the lights.  He even took home a 3rd place win  8)

Relax, I'm very aware it was Pauls 1st time out.  I was joking around is all, you guys seem to be joking around fine in this thread so I figured I'd join in....didn't think you'd take me serious, afterall you saw me at the track trying to help him as much as possible.

Don't sweat it Grant. I have been seeing this a lot from the " 2 stroke" guys. They are terrified at the rate we are catching them.

Besides I deserve a few lumps for all the cheep shots I take at Mr. Sub454. He just makes it so easy I cant help myself.
