As in the title I was wondering if anyone had some info to share about this bike?

My dads been drooling over it for awhile now. He had an FJR back in the day and every time he sees one he wants it and gets a boner
him and his friend would cruise at 130
I found this one, I need to do some paper work before lunch & should pick it up by Friday :)

I was browsing Yamaha's site & looking at the new "AE" until I saw the price, its more than I wanted to spend. This 2005 is almost new yet with 6,300 miles.
Note: Tomorrow I'm taking my motorcycle permit test, several hours before the test ride

I'm whoring my own post
Picked up the bike yesterday & rode it home, 210 miles.
Went for a spin today & rode 180 miles.
Planning a ride tomorrow afternoon & Thursday - 350 miles.
The bike simply has too much power. Not a ton of fun driving the speed limit (55mph)
Although 90 mph feels nice :)
Not a lot of curvy roads locally either so I will need to take bigger loops to find the twisties.
If I start getting speeding tickets I'll sell the bike :(

you did not get the autoclutch version, did you? Pics? What do you think as far as comfort, and in town rideability? I am sure I will bug you more,I am looking at the same bike.
'05 FJR 1300A ABS (manual shifting :) )
6300 miles
$8100
Included Joe Rocket jacket, boots, HJC helmet, Yamaha gloves, bag liners, dust cover, cleaning supplies, leather cleaner & conditioner, buffer & wax, oil filter wrench, & full tank of gas. A great package deal as all the gear fits
No pics yet, I've washed it twice. Sadly bike washing will be a regular activity, darn bugs.
My butt gets sore & my hands tingle & go numb after 40 miles, throttle hand is the worst. I'm attributing the numbness to Ninja grip, IDK. Stainless steel bar ends (heavy) claim to help reduce vibration at highway speeds. I might try those after a few weeks of riding if the problem persists.
I'd say the comfort is there I just need to find it. Remember I'm a rookie to cycles so I'm probably doing something wrong. I felt a vibration at 90 this morning on the way home & then I had to turn so..... more testing is needed. The front tire is cupping a little so that makes sense ???
In town the bike is very docile & the torque is excellent in 5th @ 30mph. With a redine of 9,000 you can feel the HP kick in around 7,000 rpm's & then things happen very fast
44 mpg when I drove it home & 42 mpg on yesterdays ride
70 or 75 is a good cruisn' speed & its easier for me to maintain that throttle position vs 60mph, I need to pick up a crusie control device or something. Looking at a 2" taller wind sheild & 1.25" bar risers that also bring the bars back a little. Make it feel more touring vs sport bike since my work commutes are 60 mph cruises. I've got a long ways to go in learning to ride.
Peels - fire away with any questions, it will surely help me learn more
very nice write-up. FJR was your first bike-damn! Does it feel big and heavy? That is my only worry. I like it when they feel agile, not bulky(ie: Harley) Like a brick with tires. FJR or BMW seems they will bridge the gap between sportbike youth and old age cruising/touring.
those FJRs are mice bikes. dad was lookin at one before he bought his Kawai Vulcan

I don't think it feels big & I weighed the bike at work last night, 600 lbs.
My buddy rides an 08 Suzuki SV 650, he did some hot laps in town & then some 150+ mph runs & he was impressed with the bikes handling & silky smooth power delivery.
I have nothing to compare to so .... guy I bought it from called it a geezer rocket
geezer rocket!!!
actually pretty accurate. Kinda what I am shopping for. I want more comfort, easier riding, but I don't want to give up all my speed.
The fjr will destroy the bmw by the way. BMW leans more toward touring as opposed to sport. Absolutely reliable though. Boxer twin air cooled 100hp. Does the job. Yamaha wins in the power dept...as usual.

I can't say since mine is a 2005. You can get the "A" or "AE", the "AE" is push button shifting, no clutch. I heard the " AE's " are dogs as far as performance goes because the trannies (auto shift) won't hold up & the bikes have been corked up as a result, again that's hearsay. I've never owned a bike before this but I believe the FJR is pretty damn quick, 80 mph in 2nd & 120 in 3rd. Not bad for a 5 speed bike :)
I've had the bike for a week now & put on over 1,000 miles :jaw:

I realized the tire was squared off but really had no idea it was done for until today.
Bike is parked until next Friday :'( Haven't ridden the Rappy in 11 days so :)
I called 2 local places & they will have to order tires for me. !st place wanted to hook me up w/ Dunlop Qualifier's, my buddy warned me so stay away from them ???
2nd place is probably going to hook me up with Dunlop Road Smarts. Let me dig up a pic in a sec.

With new tires costing $410, what should I expect for milage before they are shot?
I understand there are lots of contributing factors but I'm looking for an average?

5000 for a semi sport compound tire. Should be more for a sport- touring tire.

my buddy just put between 4k and 5k miles on his R6 and his tires are almost shot
4500 on my metzelers and they are gettin there. :(
It gets kind of spendy. I have never priced bike tires, but wow that is just crazy if you do a lot of riding
120+ per tire :( + mounting.
That's just crazy. I know my buddy had to replace the rear tire on his Victory Hammer and it was like $300 and something. That is just crazy ???

Got tires installed today & put on 100 miles tonight, bike was parked for 11 days waiting for tires. Riding on the old rear tire that was squared off it was like having training wheels.
I went with Dunlop Roadsmart's $447.00 :thud:
ddayum, I thought 300 for two was out there!
$300 sounds like a great deal
I saw a bike with a car tire on the back & it had 30,000 miles on it, tread @ 50% yet.

nice tires Bert how they handle ??
Being new to motorcycles I really don't have an experienced opinion, but compared to the old tires these are the shit. I now have 218 miles on them. Tires are quiet & balanced so thats
I'm sure the tires are great but the rider is still learning to ride :help:

Only advice I have. Take curvy roads, not just straight interstate. It is more fun, and you won't get that flat spot in the middle(like I have)
Yea Brad I can only imagine the handling with a car tire wobbling on the edge of the tire in a turn. ???
Peels - There's a few curvy roads locally but most are straight & flat :wtf:
True very flat
Going for a ride this weekend to the western Mn border & back, about 300 miles.
I've had 3 200 mile days & been tired so 300 will be a challenge, I may get :owned:
you'll be fine old man
just suck it up and keep going. well thats about all you will be able to do once you get into the ride :lol;

Hey thats good advice Brad, left with no other choice but ride
After I've been riding for too long I loose my focus & get a little sloppy at slower speeds.
A good part of that was vibration in the bars from the front tire but thats gone now so maybe I'll be allright.
Anyone use S100 Bike Wash? A guy at work uses it & swears by it on his Harley?
I need a secret to combat bug removal......maybe an electric pressure washer is the answer, I don't know. :help:
