Looking to mod: What do I need to consider?

I made the mistake of removing the spark arrestor from the stock muffler to clean it. My quad now sounds awesome and has ass-loads of power. Guess it's time to start thinking about joining the big boys' club.

What questions should I be asking before diving in? If I do it, I'll only be able to afford it once.

Where I'm at now: Boner stock.

Style of riding: General duning with occasional drag races among friends (nothing competitive). Occasionally trail ride through woods.

Where I usually ride: Coos Bay, Ore.; Moses Lake, Wash.; Tahuya (Belfair), Wash.

I'd just go with a Big 3.  Barker Duals(IMO), PC3 or 5 and a nice intake maybe a FCI with box since you trail ride.

You did good. You held off on speed mods for a LONG time.  :lol:

To mod or not isn't the question, its When?  I say tommorrow  :thumbs: 
I think you'd be happy with the power gain for the money spent on a 3 mod set up. A good flowing intake, filter & duals will support future mods without breaking the bank now.  Enjoy that power this season.

Budget line is little as possible while buying quality parts. Performance expectations are as much as possible without sacrificing reliability.

There's always used stuff out there so I'm with these guys on the big three.

Trintiy intake and K&N filter new= $150ish/used $100ish
Fuel controller Doebeck style= $150ish new/$100ish used.    PC3/5 = ~$260 new/$200 used
Exhaust (DUALS) ~$650ish new/~$400 used

So for $700 and a little patience you could have a big three setup used. Or Spend $950 new.

Am probably going to have to start with fuel controller and intake/filter.

Will Trinity and K&N fit inside the stock airbox?

What's the difference between PC3 and PC5?

PC3 is just the older model. (still in production)
the PC5 has the capability for the Auto Tune piece (not included)

PC5 is considerably smaller and easier to stash under the seat for me.  Since they're about the same price new the only reason I see to get a PC3 is because you find a really good deal on a used one.

New duals are in the mid to upper 500 range starting price, but if you can find a set used that'd be the way to go IMO.

pull out sparky, get intake and filter, and fuel controller. Cheapest/easiest way to add power.

Ive done that exact thing, and then I threw a hotcam stage 2 on there. And noticed a HUUGE top end difference. (it's also really easy to do.....)

WIll I win every race? nope. But im only into my quad for modifications around 100 bucks total.  :thumbs:

you looking about 1k to do a good big 3. barkers/ DMC's, intake (FCI is the best), PC5.

Is the PC5 reverse compatible? Will PC3 maps work on it?

PC3 maps can be converted to work on the PC5, but PC5 maps do not work on the PC3.

I'll add that you can make the PC5 map work on a pc3, it's just a little more work (eliminating the 15% throttle column which requires manually copying the map #s over)
