Evolution of a fail

Well thought I'd start a little something on it, feel free to add your own fail stories...

First off....Buying a phucking Raptor :funyun:

No pics but I bought a PC3 for 125 bucks local, installed it, and couldn't figure out why the laptop wouldn't read it...I took it apart 3 times and rechecked all connections, tried 2 laptops with different Windows OSes. Finally around 8 or 9pm, starting to get dark...For the hell of it I had the PC3 hooked up to the laptop and bumped the starter to see if the lights came on, and I saw the map come up....so...forgot they needed a 9v adapter which it didn't come with

Decided to pull the sparky out one day to put in a phoenix tip...Didn't want to come out with pliers and yanking, or a 20ft tow rope hooked up to my truck pulling it with the pbrake on. Finally got a slide hammer and popped it out...and then I bought duals a week later without ever trail riding with it :funyun:

So I get the duals, rode a few times on them....then when my dynatek blew up, I exchanged it for a piston and a cam, and thus started my ultimate modding fail...getting into the motor. Started with a 5050 cam and a 11:1 CP piston...graduated up to a +3 TB, phucker port, +2 valves, HD valve springs, and a stroker crank plus powdercoating the case covers and cylinder jug, later did the cam and thermostat covers. I initially took the quad apart at MPTonyT's place then I moved it to FL.woodsraptor's shop where he took the bottom end apart, put the stroker in, and reassembled most of the bottom end while I watched and occasionally spun a few nuts on. I got impatient and decided to bring the quad home and try to do the final assembly myself and failed miserably, breaking a few clutch inner hub bolts that hold the clutch springs in and what was left of my sanity. I ended up taking the quad and what was left of the motor BACK to Tony's and paid him 150 bucks to finish assembling it and get it running. After about a week I went back up there and got a running quad back on the truck :rev: but it still had mapping problems which took me some time to tune in, also had a problem with the idle being way too high but would shut off under 2k until I added some fuel to the 0% throttle column and that fixed it. So after that all that was left to ride it....

So the day after thanksgiving, I went riding with Tony down in Malabar, FL and after getting stuck then running into his rear rim after blasting out of a rut, 45 minutes into the ride.... :watchout: Hit that damn stump :aaron: Bent my right lower and upper a-arms, broke off my stem at the splines and pancaked my rim. It may or may not have caused a number of other issues later including a warped rotor and a cracked knuckle where the tie rod sits in.

So I got a set of red a-arms and new tie rods (the Tusk ones I was using were 100% straight and probably what caused the a-arm and stem to fail first) for 100 bucks (score) and replaced the temporary orange a-arm I borrowed, then ended up getting a set of used ITP wheels and tires from Johnny Baja. Also I had bought some carbon fiber plastics from redraptor before the wreck (probably wouldn't have bought em after that, considered reselling them) but ended up putting it all together...Bought the JVR seat with the old plastics :preddy:

So a full relatively stable months pass...I throw on some skid plates and change up some minor things on the quad...Start saving up my pennies and ended up getting some Custom Axis shocks from Woodsraptor on a "layway" plan...Then Kevin at JVR hooked me up on some awesome ARS FX +2.25 long travel a-arms, and the combo worked out perfect...but of course me being me, something had to go wrong...I initially looked at the a-arm lower and thought "Ah nuts the sticker's on upside down" and I de-stickered the lowers before it had any stains on it...then when I finally get around to installing them after I get new spindles from DL700, I put on the left side first and wondered why spindle was pitched way forward and the top balljoint was nowhere near the mount ??? Then after a call to JVR and when some of my internet friends' laughter died down, I realized that the lower a-arm was on upside down and the stickers were in the right orientation in the first place  so after cussing myself out, I fixed my mistake and put em on the right way

So that brings us to present day...Soon to have a +3 SLC swinger and a Wiigstyle reworked rear shock...But til then...just a lil trail rider with some bumps n bruises along the way

Nice story

mine has to do with an air filter...

Started out with foam. Brand new quad and half an hour into riding at a former friends house it was clogged to the point it wouldn run. So I cleaned I out and good to go. After going home Devan (1badazz) decided a k&n was the way to go. So we ordered that. Ran good for a while, but ventually kept popping of the intake tube. My simple solution

After fixing that, it still didn't want to run just right. At the end of the riding season I realized that the intake tube popped off the carb.

Fixed that and rreplaced the filter with this

Well I do have a full sheet of replacement stickers I can put on...but I like the clean look of the arms...and that's my story

Forgot to mention during the rebuild after my wreck, I forgot to put the a-arm pivot bushings in  So I had to take the arms off again to put those in.

Peelz

pat is a dork. evolution complete.  It looked better stock.

Latest failvolution...I swapped out the stock lines for upgraded braided style...First I tried some Streamline dual-line styles but couldn't get any pressure after 3 hours of constant bleeding and wasted a bottle of brake fluid (brain fart- I should've put a catch can under the hub) I swapped them to some Galfer t-style ones...I gave up on that, let it sit overnight and went out on a jet ski ride. Came back to test when the pad was hitting the rotor, and VOILA I all of a sudden started getting pressure :woot: so I bled both calipers for good measure, had good pressure. Dunno wtf ??? but I called it good...

So I started putting the plastics back on, then I realized the dash indicator light plug wasn't on top anymore...couldn't see it anywhere so I took everything back off, then I had to pull the gas tank and the heatshield off...found it laying in the harness way below the fan. So while taking all that off, I somehow knocked the spark plug wire out of the coil and I had to redo the mod (take coil off, push and turn wire in), remount the coil, remount the heatshield, gas tank, fenders, topper etc. On the test ride I didn't put the screws in the hood to tank cover plastics...and my stem hit and tore up the hood even more at the tab :aaron: BUT....I HAZ BRAKES :woot: Modding a Raptor...biggest fail ever. AND......I found more PC bubbling. Good job, Florida

Aircraft engineer jobs are easy see.....

After every flight, pilots fill out a form, called a gripe sheet which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some maintenance complaints submitted by pilots and the solutions recorded by maintenance engineers. By the way, the airline these came from is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident.

Pilot: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
Engineer: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

Pilot: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
Engineer: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

Pilot: Something loose in cockpit.
Engineer: Something tightened in cockpit.

Pilot: Dead bugs on windshield.
Engineer: Live bugs on back-order.

Pilot: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent.
Engineer: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

Pilot: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
Engineer: Evidence removed.

Pilot: DME volume unbelievably loud.
Engineer: DME volume set to more believable level.

Pilot: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
Engineer: That's what friction locks are for.

Pilot: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.
Engineer: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

Pilot: Suspected crack in windshield.
Engineer: Suspect you're right.

Pilot: Number 3 engine missing.
Engineer: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

Pilot: Aircraft handles funny.
Engineer: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.

Pilot: Target radar hums.
Engineer: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.

Pilot: Mouse in cockpit.
Engineer: Cat installed.

Pilot: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
Engineer: Took hammer away from midget

No I don't work on airplanes. If I did I'd be working a lot more than I do now.

AJ, that belongs in the joke thread

AJ, i am still laughing,
